On the evening of October 24, 2024, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment organized an inspiring cultural event (Aradhana), "Celebrating Graceful Ageing: Life Begins at 60," at Bhim Auditorium, DAIC, New Delhi. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Shri B. L. Verma, Minister of State; Shri Amit Yadav, Secretary, DoSJ&E; and Smt. Monali P. Dhakate, Joint Secretary, DoSJ&E, followed by a soulful invocation. Shri Amit Yadav, Secretary, DoSJ&E, in his address, honoured the contributions and resilience of our senior citizens, emphasizing the department’s commitment to their empowerment and dignity. Attendees enjoyed captivating performances by eminent artists, including a mesmerizing vocal recital by renowned Pt. Sajan Mishra and an enchanting Odissi dance by esteemed Guru Ranjan Gauhar. The event also showcased a lively array of folk dances, reflecting the diversity and richness of our cultural heritage. The evening concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Smt. Monali P. Dhakate, Joint Secretary, DoSJ&E, marking the end of an event that truly celebrated the beauty of ageing gracefully. In a significant step towards creating a "Bhiksha Vriti Mukta Bharat," an orientation program aimed at the effective implementation of the SMILE scheme—focused on the rehabilitation of individuals engaged in begging—was inaugurated by Shri Amit Yadav, Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, in the historic temple town of Ayodhya. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to providing a dignified livelihood and social reintegration for those who have been involved in begging, fostering a more inclusive society through collaborative efforts. The workshop saw participation from around 150 individuals representing 40 cities, highlighting a strong multi-stakeholder approach. During the program, best practices and innovative strategies for the rehabilitation of persons engaged in begging were discussed, offering a rich exchange of ideas and experiences. The interaction provided insights into holistic rehabilitation techniques that are already yielding positive results in various regions, setting the foundation for a broader national impact. In addition to discussions, the event also included an exhibition of items produced by rehabilitated individuals, showcasing the success stories and potential of this initiative in empowering individuals to contribute productively to society. These products stood as a testament to the positive change that can be achieved through sustained efforts in skill development and support. Shri Amit Yadav took the opportunity to interact with several NGOs involved in the on-ground implementation of the SMILE scheme, gaining valuable feedback and insight into the challenges and successes encountered in different parts of the country. The collaborative engagement between government bodies, NGOs, and other stakeholders will undoubtedly be key to the long-term success of this initiative, as it strives to provide sustainable solutions for one of the most marginalized sections of society. This orientation program represents a critical milestone in the journey toward eliminating the practice of begging in India, replacing it with a future of opportunity, dignity, and inclusion for all.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment hosted a two-day #ChintanShivir Conference on 9th-10th September 2024 at the Jaypee Palace Hotel, Agra. This event brought together representatives from States/UTs to discuss transformative initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized communities across India. Key sessions covered were economic, educational, and social empowerment, featuring presentations on crucial initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jati Abhyuday Yojana, scholarships for marginalized communities, and rehabilitation programs for persons with disabilities. The event provided a platform for sharing best practices, ensuring progress, and addressing challenges across different regions of India. With the active participation of Hon’ble Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, State Ministers Ramdas Athawale, B. L. Today, at Nalanda Hall, DAIC, New Delhi, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation hosted the review meeting of Dr. Ambedkar Chairs. The event was chaired by Secretary Shri Amit Yadav, DoSJ&E, along with other senior officials. Representatives from 19 Central Universities participated in this meeting where they presented their progress reports for 2023-2024, highlighting their impactful contributions in research and education inspired by Dr. Ambedkar's legacy. A stakeholder consultation on the new Venture Capital Fund scheme was held at DAIC today, chaired by Secretary Shri Amit Yadav, @MoSJEGOI. Experts from diverse fields attended to discuss the current VCF and the new design principles.  Key themes included the funding model, capacity building, and guiding markets where they are needed the most.
