The theme for IMD 2024 is "𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 – 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩." Mountains are home to 15% of the world's population and host around 87% of the planet's mammals, amphibians, and birds. Yet, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲, with 84% of mountain-endemic species at the brink of extinction. More than ever, 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 that restore and 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 and the countless species they support. On the 10th of December 1948, the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 was adopted at the UN General Assembly to “𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴, 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦” Upholding human rights is a 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 and 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 the marginalized, and 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. The Principles for Responsible Investment's (PRI) 2023 annual report shows an 𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀, shaped by regulatory trends like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. Demographically, EMEA is setting the standard for implementation of mandatory due diligence laws to uphold human rights due diligence, followed by North America and the APAC region. While 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 and 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 emphasize Responsible Investment (RI) signatory policies for social issues, only half of them 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗜 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀. Despite steady increase in the coverage and adoption of social issues and human rights in their disclosure, 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟯𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 (of the 3,700 signatories to the PRI in 2023) have made 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 in their reporting. As of 2023, 60% of the PRI signatories reporting indicated to use one or more human rights frameworks for identifying sustainability outcomes (intended and unintended) connected to investment activities. The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals is the most commonly used framework among these signatories. While this is certainly set to improve, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀, specifically human rights reporting and disclosure, are established. The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day is “𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴, 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸” 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝗼𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 #HumanRightsDay #Sustainability #ESG #Responsiblebusinesspractice #SocialMetrics #SocialSustainability #PRI #NeoImpact #privatemarkets #privatemarketintelligence

Every year on 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵 - 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 (IACD), the world unites to combat corruption and raise awareness about its far-reaching impact. This year, the IACD theme is: 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘶𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸'𝘴 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺. In 2023, 35 member states (countries) and 57 authorities joined 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗘𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗘 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸) taking the number to 121 countries and 231 authorities (as of 2024). This has created a culture of collaboration and trust between members (authorities) in the region.
