Happy #WorldFisheriesDay!!!! This day is celebrated globally on November 21st of every year, underscoring the importance of sustainable fisheries, the need to protect aquatic ecosystems, and the livelihoods of fishing communities. The origin of this celebration dates back to 1997 when the World Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers was established in New Delhi, India. Representatives from 18 countries formed the World Fisheries Forum, advocating for sustainable fishing practices and policies globally. This day is all about raising awareness about critical challenges such as overfishing, habitat destruction, and illegal fishing practices while advocating for the empowerment of small-scale fishers, who are often among the most marginalized communities worldwide facing challenges like limited resources and climate change impacts. Advocacy efforts on this day focus on their rights, sustainable practices, and inclusive policies. Come Let us all commit to Sustainable Fisheries!!! Together, we can protect our waters, ensure #biodiversity, and secure #livelihoods for generations to come. #sustainablefisheries #naturalresourcemanagement #fishculture #ClimateAction #BlueEconomy #newsfornature
