🌏 World Sustainable Transport Day 🚍 Today, we celebrate the transformative power of sustainable transport in building a cleaner, greener, and more inclusive world for a better tomorrow and the day after. Sustainable transport is more than a means to move from one place to another. It's a catalyst for achieving global climate goals, reducing air pollution, and creating equitable access to mobility for all. As India expands its EV adoption, we see a bigger impact in terms of emissions abatement. Public transport stands as a strong pillar in realising the vision. As you can see in this image, an e-bus can cater to a lot more passengers than private vehicles, significantly reducing congestion and emissions per capita. Let's commit to choosing, supporting, and investing in sustainable mobility solutions. Together, we can redefine transportation for a sustainable future. 🌱 #EVReadyIndia #SustainableTransport #JustTransition #EMobility Image Credits: Kajal Kumari

India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution is gaining momentum, with a remarkable ninefold growth in public charging stations between March 2022 and March 2024. PM E-Drive scheme aims to bolster EV charging infrastructure to increase EV adoption. However, one critical question remains: 𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙀𝙑 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚? In her recent article for EMobilityPlus, Aishwarya Agarwal highlights the urgent need to integrate accessibility into EV charging infrastructure right from the start. Drawing inspiration from global best practices in the EU, USA, UK, and Canada, she outlines how India can design an inclusive EV network that serves all users—people with disabilities, older adults, and vulnerable groups included. 📌 Key Insights from the article: - Building accessibility into EV infrastructure design at the outset is cost-effective, saving future retrofitting costs. - Accessibility mandates, like those in the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive and the UK’s PAS1899 standard, ensure charging stations cater to diverse user needs. - Linking accessibility standards with financial incentives, state policies, and public-private partnerships can create a consistent and inclusive EV ecosystem in India. As India accelerates its EV journey, this is the moment to future-proof our mobility transition. An accessibility-first approach is not just equitable—it’s essential for ensuring that the benefits of sustainable mobility are shared by all. 💬 How can we collectively shape India’s EV infrastructure to be inclusive from the ground up?
