It was 2019, and I sat staring at my screen. My heart racing, hands trembling, waiting for the CAT results to load 99.39 percentile. My second time crossing 99. My second shot at my dream But just like 2018—when I scored 99.07—it wasn’t enough. Once again, I had only one call [Engineering reality]: IIM Calcutta. Once again, I poured my heart into the interview. And once again, I was waitlisted. The dream I had nurtured for years—to get into IIM A, B, or C—felt like it had crumbled before my eyes. I may sound like I was being selective, but I didn’t want to settle. I wanted a strong brand on my resume. Twice I had reached the cusp of my dreams, and twice I had fallen short. I remember sitting alone in my room. Tears blurred my vision as doubts consumed me. "Am I not good enough? What more can I possibly do?" But in that darkness, a tiny voice inside me whispered: “If not this, then something else. Something bigger.” I decided I would go abroad for my MBA. Here’s the thing: I had no plan. No GMAT score. No resume with fancy names. No standout extracurriculars. But I had one thing: a decision to keep moving. Step by step, things started falling into place. I ventured into data analytics—an area I’d never explored. I became an educator. I started OneStopData a passion project that grew into a 400K+ community and helped me teach 20,000+ people worldwide. I dove into entrepreneurship—something I had never even considered. Along the way, I gave TEDx talks, worked with some of the best brands in the world, and gained global recognition. I was chasing brands, but in the process, I ended up becoming one. And then, when the time was right, I got into some of the world’s top business schools. Today, I’m pursuing my MBA at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business , surrounded by brilliant peers, learning from incredible mentors, and have worked at a leading global consulting firm. Looking back, not getting into IIM was a blessing in disguise. Had I been accepted, I might have settled into a path that wasn't truly mine, and done an online MBA during COVID. Instead, I’m abroad, living my dream, experiencing global education, and building a career that’s far bigger than I ever imagined. To everyone who received their CAT results today—whether you're celebrating or questioning your next steps—I want you to know: Sometimes, when it feels like the world is closing in, it's actually opening doors you hadn't thought to knock on.✨ If things aren't unfolding the way you envisioned, it might be because there's something bigger waiting for you.
