#JusticeforSurabhi “Surabhi along with her supervisor and two researchers from IIT Gandhinagar, was conducting fieldwork at the Lothal site to collect soil samples. To dig a pit for sample collection, a JCB machine was used to create a trench 1 by 3 meters in width and length 15 feet deep by Professor Yama dixit. The wet and unstable post-monsoon soil collapsed as she was collecting sample. Without proper safety measures such as ropes or other rescue equipment, and with the remote location delaying help, the incident resulted in her untimely demise. This tragedy could have been avoided had proper safety protocols been in place.
