"To give a push to renewables, the government has set an RPO trajectory, which progressively increases to 43.33 per cent by 2030. Further, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy plans to achieve 1,800 GW of non-fossil capacity and a 77 per cent share of non-fossil fuel electricity generation by 2047. To further expand renewable power, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will implement renewable energy projects of over 100 GW through the developer mode by 2030. In line with the government’s plans for indigenising the renewable energy supply chain, SECI has issued tenders for the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia, electrolyser manufacturing, solar components under PLI, etc. SECI is also planning to rapidly expand its capex footprint to 10 GW by 2030." In an interview with Renewable Watch, R P Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, talked about the key achievements of SECI, its experience with innovative tenders and future targets. He also shared policy suggestions to further promote renewable energy uptake. Shripad Naik, Member of Parliament from North Goa, recently took over as Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy. His appointment comes at a time when India’s renewable energy sector is at a critical crossroads, as it powers its way to meeting ambitious climate goals. Distributed solar, especially residential rooftop solar, has received a significant fillip; the domestic solar manufacturing base is expected to broaden; the green hydrogen segment is gaining momentum with significant industry interest; and offshore wind is expected to become the next frontier of growth. Naik, who has led various central ministries in the past, now has the key responsibility of strengthening government efforts to drive further growth in the renewables’ sector. In an interview with Renewable Watch, Naik talked about recent trends in the sector, key policy initiatives, and the status of domestic manufacturing. He also discussed the major challenges and opportunities in the sector. It was at the COP26 global climate summit in Glasgow in 2021 that India set the ball rolling by announcing its intent to achieve net zero emissions by 2070. In addition to this, it announced an ambitious clean energy goal of installing 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity as a part of the country’s clean energy transition journey. Three COPs and just three years later, India has shown remarkable progress in its transition towards clean energy sources. Its renewable energy capacity has expanded by an impressive 54 GW to reach 203.22 GW as of October 2024. However, the country would need at least 45 GW of new installations every year over the next six years to even come close to this goal. It is a daunting task, but is not impossible! This article by Khushboo Goyal reviews the progress made during the past year with respect to capacity expansion, key auctions, policies, technology trends and financings, and then follow up with priority areas or action items for the next six years to reach the 2030 target: Overcoming T&D bottlenecks Securing supply chains Policy and regulatory clarity Capacity building Read the complete article here: https://lnkd.in/gVDxzMic #vision2030 #netzero #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #renewables #cleanpower #sustainabledevelopment #cop29 #solarpower #windpower #energystorage #batteryenergystorage #greenhydrogen #lowcarbonenergy #energytransition #cleanenergytransition #floatingsolar #criticalminerals #supplychains #energysecurity #justtransition #womenincleanenergy #equitabletransition

Tamil Nadu state government has recently released three key policies for the renewables sector – concerning wind repowering and refurbishment, small hydro and pumped hydro storage development. The central government too has announced several incentives and plans for promoting offshore wind in the state. In the solar space, a key positive and highlight in the past year has been the setting up of manufacturing facilities for solar components. Several developments are taking place in the green hydrogen space as well. However, one stumbling block in the state’s renewable growth story could be the decision to introduce a wind resource tax for wind energy projects connected to the central grid. This article highlights the key recent policy developments in Tamil Nadu and the future outlook for renewables in the state… #TamilNadu #Windenergy #Smallhydro #Pumpedstorage #offshorewind #solarmanufacturing #greenhydrogen #windresourcetax #renewableenergy
