What I Learned About LinkedIn Growth (And What Actually Works)
When I started posting consistently in September, I had 1,100 followers and no grand expectations. My goal wasn’t to “grow” my presence—I simply wanted to share insights from my work in automation.
My niche is technical, fast-evolving, and not exactly suited for generic advice.
So, like many, I experimented with different formats:
→ Carousels
→ Tutorials
→ Memes
→ Top 10 lists
→ Personal stories
→ Videos
Some posts resonated. Most didn’t.
Now, with over 1M+ impressions, 1,900+ new followers, 200+ weekly search hits, and 100+ posts later, I’ve learned a few things about what actually works on LinkedIn.
What Actually Works on LinkedIn?
1. Format matters, but psychology wins.
Initially, I thought carousels and videos performed well because LinkedIn’s algorithm favors them.
→ While that’s partially true, I realized the real driver is tension and curiosity.
Hooks like “Don’t make this mistake…” or “Why this common strategy fails” grab attention and drive engagement.
2. It’s not just about views—it’s about rewatches and engagement.
Some of my highest-performing posts weren’t the ones with the most views—they were the ones people paused, rewatched, or commented on.
Personal stories and relatable struggles consistently resonated more than generic advice.
3. Conversations matter more than virality.
I had posts that went viral but led to almost no meaningful connections.
→ Viral posts don’t always convert.
The best posts spark discussions, not just impressions.
4. Consistency matters less than feedback loops.
For the first month, I posted daily but saw little growth.
→ Posting frequently without analyzing what works is inefficient.
Real growth comes from doubling down on what works and refining what doesn’t.
What Actually Worked for Me?
→ Catchy videos performed the best.
→ Tutorials did okay, but only when the hook was strong.
→ Text-based posts worked when they sparked debates or discussions.
The hardest lesson I’ve learned is that what works for others won’t always work for you. Posting more frequently doesn’t necessarily lead to better reach.
While impressive numbers can be appealing, true success is measured by meaningful engagement.
Now, I’m curious—what’s a LinkedIn hack that has worked for you?
