These are India’s first-of-its-kind independent clinics designed especially for older adults. This feels like an important step towards fulfilling a promise to the population we’re committed to serve, and to transform Ageing in India. Healthcare in India is often reactive. • 🌟 Celebrating Our Angels: Care Counsellors & Care Leaders 🌟 At Samarth, we are deeply grateful for our incredible team of Care Counsellors and Care Leaders—the true Angels who make a difference every single day. Families constantly express their appreciation, and it fills our hearts with pride to see their dedication and compassion being recognised. Today, we want to shine a light on two exceptional individuals: 💐 Punam Mokashi, a name synonymous with care and commitment. Her tireless dedication to parents in Ahmedabad is nothing short of inspiring. She is a true pillar of support, and her work continues to make a meaningful impact. Punam, you are a shining star! Keep inspiring us all. 💐 Meghna Gharodia, who recently stepped into her role as a Care Leader, is already making an extraordinary difference. Within just a month, her empathy and proactive approach have brought immense comfort to the families she supports. Meghna, your journey has just begun, and it is already remarkable. Here’s a heartfelt message from Nidhi, daughter of Rajkumar Uncle & Aunty, that beautifully reflects the gratitude families feel: "Thanks, Punam ji, you are running from last two days for Mumma, talking to doctors, taking their appointments, taking her for X-rays and sonography—even taking care of their food breaks. Hospital visits are difficult with long waiting times, but you are handling everything with a smile and patience. My parents always say, 'Punam ji bahut achhi hein.' We are really lucky to have you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so, so much 🙏 And thank you to Meghna ji too—these calls every few days give me a lot of mental peace. Knowing someone is there to ask if they’re fine and check their daily routine is a blessing. 🙏" Team Samarth is proud of you, Punam and Meghna, and of all our Care Counsellors and Care Leaders who embody our mission of compassionate care. Let’s continue reaching for the stars and making a difference! 🌠

My meeting at NITI Aayog this week with Dr. V.K. Paul, Member (Health) at the helm, gave me a lot of hope for action on elder health in India. A historic step has been taken with Ayushman Bharat coverage for all elderly. However historic steps carry historic risks! My key recommendations to the NITI team were to mitigate these risks, ensure financial viability, and fine-tune medical education to the needs of the changing demographics. We were also privileged to share our research based 1-2-3 framework for determining Quality of Life for elderly to serves as a goal for policy measures for their welfare. The sweet bonus was meeting Hemant Kumar Meena, fellow alumnus from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur making waves at NITI. with Rohit Prasad, Himanshu Rath, Gargi Lakhanpal, Malti Jaswal, Premkumar Raja, Nidhi Chawla, Sailesh Mishra

Age is just a number, and fun should never stop! When we started Samarth, we believed that our elders deserved more joy and adventure in their lives. Our recent survey just proved how right that feeling was! Here's what we found out: - 9 out of 10 seniors say travel makes them happy and keeps their minds sharp. - More than half would love to explore more of incredible India. There's so much to see right here at home! - Why do they travel? For happiness, to discover new things, and to feel purposeful.  "Going places", therefore, finds an important place among the three joys we work to fulfill through special tours for seniors as part of Samarth's 1-2-3 Manifesto (1 wish, 2 worries, 3 joys we believe are most important to every older adult). Every time I see a senior traveler return with a big smile and exciting stories, I'm reminded why we do this. It's about living life to the fullest, no matter your age. I had the incredible privilege of meeting the Honorable Governor of Jharkhand, Sri Santosh Gangwar, to discuss initiatives that are close to my heart—fostering elder care and driving impactful community development. During the meeting, we shared insights about the transformative work being done under Samarth Care and our efforts to empower communities across Jharkhand through projects supported under CSR by Central Coalfields Limited & ESL Steel Limited. This interaction reaffirms my belief that collaborative efforts between the government, corporates, and civil society can create a meaningful impact. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to present our vision and explore pathways to make a difference in the lives of the elderly and marginalised. In the last edition, I talked about what looking at the lives of happier elderly tells us about how we can today prepare for a different ‘game’ to play when we grow older. This edition looks at another implication for us, and it comes from one of their biggest fears or worries this time.

Addressing today what is likely to be our biggest fear tomorrow

ALUMS, do this as the first step to parent-care! It was a pleasure to be invited by IITD alums classes of 1989 and 90 to have a chat on solutions for caring for parents at their wonderful IIT Delhi Alumni Association centre recently. Thanks Ranbir Singh, Vidya Phalke, Ankur Lal and others. It is not by chance that this comes up at in so many discussions when old friends meet. For most of us who have ageing parents and can't be with them physically, it is a very live issue. The ideas we have developed at Samarth Care on how to help parents acceptance support; what to prioritise to give them joy, overcome their worries, and fulfill their important wishes; resonated with everyone. My request to all of us with ageing parents is to, as an immediate first step, ensure basic preventive healthcare for them with essential vaccinations and screening. It is inexpensive, quick and effective. Our mothers did it for us when we were children, now we must for our parents! If you need help getting it done, talking to parents, figuring our which screens and vaccines, feel free to contact me or write to prevention@samarth.community.
