About us
The Secretariat is a non-partisan chronicler of policy, economy and business. We, at the Secretariat, bring you in-depth articles on policies that impact people, profits and the planet. In doing so, The Secretariat acts as a point of confluence, facilitating a healthy and meaningful dialogue amongst all stakeholders. Besides chronicling news, we also organize brainstorming round-tables and meaningful seminars as a neutral third party. Our attempt is to bring policy-makers – the government and bureaucracy; think tanks - the academia, independent researchers and industry bodies; and the policy consumers - the industry and citizens at large, together to understand each other and take the idea of ‘Viksit Bharat’ forward. The government determines not only the quality of life of people but also the means of our individual and collective aspirations. We aim to be a catalyst between the government and businesses. During the course of policy making, we hope to create a meaningful dialogue between the policymakers and stakeholders. This is the gap, which The Secretariat aims to fill. The Secretariat aspires to be that serious voice in the ecosystem-- a connecting nucleus in the policy universe. Going ahead to further decode and simplify policies for the end consumer.

After the noise on meagre COP29 finance has faded, the illusion of money replacing biophysical systems remains. Capital, at best, helps developed countries evade the deeper questions. Pollution monetisation can manage risks but not heal nature. Take a look at the viable remedies in today’s Policy Plunge exclusively on The Secretariat https://lnkd.in/geZ6KHYT #sustainability #cop29 #climatefinance #lossanddamagefund #biologicalresources #policyplunge

With an improvement of 0.05% in India’s forest cover from 2021 to 2023, the target of 33% seems a dream far away. Further, this quantitative gain does not necessarily account for any improvement in forest quality. There are many dimensions of forest improvement and degradation. In this exclusive article on The Secretariat, read a three-pronged approach to achieving the 33% target “not as a distant goal but as an urgent necessity”. https://lnkd.in/gCQnsnHf #forestcover #isfr #33% #carboncredit #ecotourism #conservation #policyplunge

What’s the true power of a smartphone or a smart TV? They have become so integral to our daily lives that we often forget what fuels them and take the silicon chip for granted. This tiny bit can drive a washing machine, program a drone, mimic neurons, and revolutionise AI. One need not be an electronics maverick to break apart the phone and look at what lies inside. Let this intriguing read by Bodhisattwa Maity break it all down for the layman and make the technical jargon a fun sail-through. https://lnkd.in/ggVmzFEu #silicon #ic #microchip #semiconductorchip #logicchip #soc #galliumnitride #asic #memorychip #transistor #editorialcharter

What can 2025 bring for the Global South in light of the recently concluded COP29? Yet again, the meagre Climate Finance allocated by the developed nations left the developing lot gasping for much more. Ditching the West reliance, the Global South must innovate for solutions even as it feels most acutely the heat of climate finance paradox. Solution awaits in the shapes of Impact-Linked Bonds, Carbon Credits, Green Infra coupled with Shared Energy Model, Debt-for-Climate-Swaps, Diaspora Green Bonds, and even AI and Blockchain. This theSecretariat article illuminates their potential to empower communities and attract investors by balancing returns with social impact. https://lnkd.in/g5KQz5eN #climatefinance #netzero #COP29 #sustainability #impactlinkedbond #carboncredits #debtrelief #diasporagreenbond #blockchain

As the world increasingly converges into a chip, it has become imperative to have a robust Intellectual Property (IP) Policy for India to remain a semiconductor leader more so when China and South Korea emerge as competitors. Relatively, India stands 24th in the ranks of patent filings while the dismal private showing is a concern with the IITs and the CSIR mostly dominating the national scene. This Secretariat piece gives a comprehensive understanding of the role of an IP, the patent landscape in the country, the typology and sub-classes before underlining the challenges and the key strategies moving forward as India vies for the top position. https://lnkd.in/gggrRhSS #intellectualproperty #semiconductor #IPPolicy #licensingstrategies

The Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) with its potential to ‘bank the unbanked’ and attract credit card spenders in the e-commerce era has skyrocketed globally. In India, it is slated to grow 15x by 2026. But the ‘phantom debt’ is worrying the regulators worldwide. However, in the zeal to counter its abuse and maintain transparency, it has to be recognised that BNPL is “at best a result and not the root of today’s hyper-consumerism”. It must be ensured its undeniable benefits are not wiped out by wiping the ensuing threats. Read on to know exclusively on The Secretariat how the US and Australia are preparing to combat its fallout. https://lnkd.in/gw_fNjFu #BNPL #policyplunge #buynowpaylater #phantomdebt
