It was lovely to moderate the Industry-Academia round table on "How Gen AI tools are helping software development - specifically accelerating coding" While there were several interesting points to ponder, the focus of the round table was on: * Different Types of GenAI tools for coding * Challenges in adopting GenAI tools for coding * Best practices to help a dev group adopt GenAI Some really interesting ideas/thoughts through out the session. Hope to write it up and publish a report on the same. Had a wonderful experience delivering the tutorial on "Engineering Digital Twins for Intelligent Transport Systems" as a part of #IEEEICVES2024 at Ahmedabad University. The tutorial focused on how Model Driven Engineering combined with Domain Driven Design can be applied to engineer digital twins. The ideas were demonstrated through two case studies of water network digital twin developed Smart City Living Lab@IIITH and the ongoing development of Digital Twin for ITS as part of the DigIT project (Indo-UK project involving, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH), Indian Institute of Information Technology, SriCity and Middlesex University,). BEST PAPER AWARD 2024 at JURIX2024 Conference

Can LLMs generate test cases from natural language requirements? Does the complexity of the requirements affect the test case generation process? If so, what's the effectiveness of these test cases? We ran an experiment using six publicly available general purpose LLMs viz., BARD, ChatGPT3.5, Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT4.o (Omni) and Llama3 and got some interesting results ! The paper has been accepted as a full paper in Innovations in Software Engineering (ISEC) conference to be held in FEB 2025! The Silver Jubilee celebrations of LTRC of the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) over the past two days was really a time to introspect and to understand ourselves. The last session was with the alumni of LTRC who are in different situations now. Two got PhD from here, others got their dual-degree Bachelors-Masters from the institute. Radhika Mamidi conducted it at a level that combined the professional with the personal. There is no bigger impact of an academic institution that the impact through its alumni. When the alumni are also continuing the institute's mission of research, the satisfaction is multiplied manifold. That's the message to all alumni! Stay connected to the institute and visit it often!

A lot of our work involves specifying requirements for Virtual Reality learning apps. This new model-based approach to specification looks interesting! As the study authors point out, specifying requirements for virtual reality (VR) software development and documenting these is a labour-intensive process. This involves compiling detailed information on scene flow, itemising the items featured in each scene, action responses, custom behaviors, and timeline of events. The slightest change in requirements could escalate design and development costs, particularly if reference information for some elements is scarce or hard to obtain. This is a problem we are grappling with at the time of writing in relation to a defence technical training project. Most VR practitioners rely on conventional software engineering (SE) requirement-gathering techniques, but the reasearchers identified a need for innovative methods in order to streamline VR software development. Since VR related technologies are constantly evolving, VR practitioners need assistance specifying non-volatile requirements for a minimum viable VR software product. To meet this need the study authors have developed a virtual reality requirement specification tool (VReqST), which uses model-based approach to the specification of virtual reality software products. This allows analysts to specify requirements for both simple and complex multi-scene VR software products and virtual environments (VEs). Whilst VR authoring tools are designed for developing and organising content based on requirements, requirement specification tools are an evolving class of products for managing and tracking requirements throughout development. VR authoring tools focus on clarity and conciseness, whilst requirement specification tools are designed to provide a more comprehensive approach to the management of requirements.
