Athletes push limits, but is recovering pushing back? Check out Dr. Ramita Gupta's research below.
“"𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸?" #Recovery techniques are crucial for athletes to maintain peak performance, prevent injuries, and ensure long-term success in their respective sports. Research has consistently shown that recovery is just as important as training, with studies revealing that proper recovery techniques—such as rest, hydration, nutrition, stretching, and sleep—help reduce the risk of injury, improve muscle repair, and enhance overall performance. However, in India, there is still limited awareness regarding the significance of recovery in sports culture. The majority of injuries in sports are caused due to poor recovery and #overtraining. Many coaches, parents and athletes themselves continue to follow the outdated philosophy of "more pain, more gain," believing that pushing through fatigue and increasing training intensity without adequate rest leads to better results. This approach, however, often leads to burnout, chronic fatigue, and a higher incidence of injuries. In fact, there are studies published that optimized recovery strategies even help to prevent the injuries not just in accelerating the healing and #RTS after an injury. The lack of focus on recovery strategies not only hampers #athletic development but also compromises long-term health, making it essential for Indian #sports culture to evolve towards a more holistic approach that emphasizes recovery as a key component of training. Here are some strategies to revolutionize your recovery game: 1. Sleep & Heart Rate regulation: The easiest but underrated tool of recovery. Both quality and quantity of sleep are the key factors. 2. Active recovery: Cross training at low intensities is a fun way to combat both physical and mental fatigue. 3. Compression garments 4. Hydrotherapy: Cold water immersion/Contrast bath/Hot water immersion are various forms of hydrotherapy suited post-intense training/competitions. Nutrition #periodization: Always make sure that your diet is specific and customized in accordance with the energy expenditure and targeted goals.
