On behalf of The Agri Collaboratory, CGIAR, and Institute for Competitiveness, India we are delighted you could participate in the launch of AgDx – the farmer-centric, Agri Digitalization Framework being co-created as a “public good”, as an open ecosystem-led effort. This first “launch” meeting laid down the current structure, principles, and approaches, sought feedback, and enrolled collaborators. Thank you for your resounding endorsement and willingness to support. Stay tuned for updates and a detailed report. Here are some highlights from the 14th of Nov 2024. As Parmesh Shah & Rathish Balakrishnan pointed out – helping States benchmark their performance by improving the “observability and measurability” of progress in digital agriculture will strengthen their ability to compete for public services and investments, strengthening the already strong spirit of competitive federalism in India. Dr. Amit Kapoor highlighted the scientific rigor behind building these frameworks and scorecards emphasizing the huge percentage of effort and time expended at the design & development stage. Harsh Kumar Bhanwala pointed out the need to include social, cultural, farmer farmer-facing indicators, including tenant farmers and institution strengthening which in turn will accelerate digital agriculture. Hemendra Mathur urged us to get started and not wait for perfection - more indicators will be added, and the framework strengthened as AgDx evolves. He suggested including indicators to measure the use of “Big Tech” by farmers -YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Ishira Mehta suggested using proxies if primary indicators lacked publicly available data and including those that measure data privacy & consent management by the states. Aneesh Jain suggested institutionalizing “change management” for framework indicators, allowing some to be replaced once they outlived their purpose. Venky Ramachandran suggested highlighting policy successes and failures in the States. Sanjay Vidyarthi emphasized indicators that aligned aggressively to support issues of small farmers. Sunil Khairnar said that AgDx could collectively help reduce the time to build Agri Tech startups, from 15 years currently. Non-profits, Foundations, Startups, and VCs can use AgDx to guide investment decisions, which will accelerate the penetration, maturity, and impact of the digitalization of agricultural practices, products, and processes in India and the Global South. Parmesh Shah - Thank you for laying out your vision on how #AgDx The Digital Agriculture framework can evolve and support farmers by helping States & Countries, StartUps & Foundations identify gaps and direct our investment and energy more effectively! Its launch tomorrow is a small step in a long journey, but one, that will enable a Big Leap for digital agriculture. AgDx is a public good. I encourage all stakeholders to shape it collaboratively to meet diverse needs. "Delighted to support the Launch of AgDx: The Agri Digitalisation Framework to advance Digital Agriculture for a Sustainable Future" I'm excited to introduce AgDx – the Agri Digitalisation Framework, a transformative, farmer-centric initiative co-created by The Agri Collaboratory, CGIAR, and Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) as a “public good” I see several countries progressing rapidly in digital agriculture, but despite all the efforts made by startups and governments, only 10-20% of farmers globally have access to digital agriculture. We need to quickly target at least 50% within the decade. In this video, I share how in my view, the AgDx Framework with standardized scorecards and indices will help measure and enhance the penetration and the impact of digital agriculture on farmers, especially smallholders, women, and landless farmers as well as track our progress on sustainability metrics. I have participated in several brainstorming and industry consultation sessions as AgDx evolved and I'm convinced this is an important tool we need to build with other stakeholders and I will personally support it as much as I can. AgDx has potential beyond India and can accelerate the digitalization of agriculture in countries of the Global South. State governments and countries can use AgDx to build roadmaps while Non-Profit Foundations, Startups, and VCs can use it to guide investment decisions. Best wishes to the team and to the collaborative ecosystem that is making it happen, let’s work together to shape the future of agriculture. The Agri Collaboratory, the Institute for Competitiveness, India and CGIAR are coming together to launch AgDx, the Agri Digitalisation Framework, to accelerate digitalisation in agriculture. As India's agriculture sector faces complex challenges, it’s essential to bring observability and measurability to our progress and create frameworks to guide States, Startups, Foundations, and others in building roadmaps that drive meaningful change. AgDx is arriving at a critical time, as the agriculture sector, the largest consumer of land, water, and labour, must progress towards global productivity standards. Through standardized scorecards, actionable pathways, and collaborative frameworks, AgDx will empower stakeholders—from farmers to policymakers—to make informed decisions, fostering data-driven, equitable growth in agriculture. We are thrilled to explore how AgDx, as a transformative tool, will help unlock new potential for agricultural communities. Dr. Amit Kapoor, Ram Kiran Dhulipala, Parmesh Shah, Nipun Mehrotra, Sanjiv Rangrass, Navya Mehrotra, Avani Goiporia, Najeena Vahab, Adit Tiwari, Siddhant Somvanshi, Akaash Preetham, Hosanna Vj, Nirmal Sebastian #AgDx #DigitalAgriculture #CGIAR #InstituteForCompetitiveness #AgriTech #SustainableFarming #DataDrivenAgriculture
"Excited to Collaborate to Launch AgDx: A Milestone for Digital Agriculture Transformation" It’s a pleasure for the Institute for Competitiveness to join forces with @CGIAR and @The Agri Collaboratory to bring #AgDx, the Agri Digitalisation Framework, to life. Given the criticality of Digital Agriculture, we need clear observability and measurability on our current progress and then use a framework like AgDx to guide and help States, Startups, Foundations, and others create roadmaps to accelerate progress. The digital agri market is projected to reach $25 billion by 2025. Its importance in transforming the overall agri sector is of course, reasonably well understood and documented. However, its impact reaches beyond the Agri sector. In my view, a revitalized Agri sector is absolutely essential to India achieving its vision of "Viksit Bharat". Given that Agriculture is by far, the biggest consumer of land, water, and labour -- without agriculture catching up with global productivity standards, our interconnected objectives on climate, food security, farmer income, water preservation, etc are difficult to achieve. Progress in digital agriculture could therefore have an outsized impact on India's journey of economic and social evolution. This will, of course, require us to reduce working in silos and increase competitive benchmarking of the usage of scarce investment resources across States. Hence, AgDx arrives at a crucial time. As I explain in the video, AgDx will help create standardized scorecards, actionable pathways, and collaborative frameworks to empower stakeholders from farmers to policymakers, fostering informed decision-making and equitable growth in agriculture. https://lnkd.in/gghggYaa A group of senior stakeholders from the industry, global foundations, AgriTech Startups, Academia, Govt, etc are joining us on November 14 for a conversation and launch of the AgDx Agri Digitalisation Framework. You may also join the YouTube live stream at 1115 am at the below link, to see how this transformative tool can unlock new potential for agricultural communities. https://lnkd.in/gYtXs29q #AgDx #DigitalAgriculture @SanjivRangrass @nipunmehrotra @ram_dhulipala, @CGIAR #AgriTech #SustainableFarming #DataDrivenAgriculture #Livestream

A big thank you to all who participated in the Digital Agriculture Workshop held in Bangalore on October 7th. It was a remarkable gathering of minds from the private sector, startups, government, and international organizations—all focused on transforming agriculture through collaboration and data-driven innovation. Key Takeaways: * Startup Challenges: Access to good data and markets, scaling difficulties, and lack of partnerships. * Data Monetization : AgriStack could revolutionize how data is used, but scaling requires addressing quality, accessibility, and cost issues. * Collaboration: Private sector engagement is crucial for real-time solutions like crop monitoring, while government support can enhance data frameworks. * Data Governance: Consent-based, standardized data systems are essential to building trust and driving innovation. Together, we’re paving the way for a digitally empowered agricultural ecosystem! Collaboration across sectors remains difficult, even when we face challenges that no single entity can tackle alone. We’ll share more insights and learnings on this soon. For those who couldn’t attend but are eager to engage, please write to us at collaborate@agricollaboratory.com. We’ll be sharing an output report with next steps in the coming weeks. Thank you to The World Bank Group, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) and TiE Bangalore for supporting a shared vision to unlock the potential of digital agriculture, particularly for smallholder farmers. Special thanks to Shri Priyank M Kharge, Honourable Minister, and Dr. Ekroop Caur, Honourable Secretary, for their leadership and guidance throughout this initiative.
