Brutalism is a solely architectural style that communicates the social, political, and economic environment of the twentieth century. The style started in Europe after the Second World War and expanded around the world, with powerful designs that celebrated resilience, advancement, and extreme ideas. In this case, we highlight five different ways in which brutalism shaped the world: reconstruction, politics, housing, culture, and legacy. This explorative approach is useful in allowing us to understand whatever challenges the brutalist ideologies faced in society. As a result of the Second World War, cities in Europe were left in a state of extreme destruction that needed a well-thought-out architectural response. The style was born in the UK as a response to this crisis, having realized that there was a shortage of skilled labor and materials, and so designs had to be reasonably intelligent, seek to be completed quickly, and, at the same time, be cheap. One of the men who inspired brutalists is modernist architect Le Corbusier, who suggested the use of raw concrete and that architecture could be designed to improve people’s lives. His example includes Unité d’Habitation Marseille, France, 1952, where he was able to achieve the above concept of living while only using atrocious close ratio settings for Aeroscape. The building included shops and spaces for people to interact together, and given that the war had created an extreme shortage of shelter, this made the structure an innovative way to resolve the issues. The Smithsons on Brutalism Alison and Peter Smithson are, in his words, “precursors of New Brutalism.” And, as if that isn’t enough, the couple also established the foundation of British brutalism, their contribution reaching its peak around the 50s. Their earlier works, like Hunstanton School, built in Norfolk, remain a classic testament to the brutalist era. The focus on the materials and the strength of the structure was at the core of their effort. The Smithsons’ philosophy was in line with the world at the time, as it was practical—it was a world emerging out of chaos in which architecture needed to be functional. https://lnkd.in/gbs9ijPW

Abu Dhabi Art 2024 opened in a striking and vivid atmosphere, as its growth into one of the important cultural sites within the world of art was well accented. This year’s fair, held at Manarat Al Saadiyat, was undoubtedly the most ambitious of this UAE series thus far, as it gathered more than 100 galleries and guests from 31 countries, setting a record in attendance. The event strengthened Abu Dhabi’s position as an artistic and cultural center and provided opportunities for the enjoyment of Eastern modernism and contemporary trends amidst the region’s challenges and the changing art market globally. Abu Dhabi Mecca for Art 2024 Event has certainly grown. It was the 10th edition. It came with much expectation from sponsors and had a good audience turnout across its recent locations. It was also the first time a whole new section was created at the fair for the modern art segment. The modern art segment, in its entire scope, wrought spectacular praise, but so did other elements of the fair: the alleged Abu Dhabi buy-in of MCH Group, which controls Art Basel fairs, and the problems posed by ongoing conflict in the region. https://lnkd.in/gs_UEhQY

Art Basel Miami beach 2024 Shop has become a key to allowing them to survive Art Basel fairs and events as places where art, lifestyle, and contemporary culture merged together. The most interesting part is in the upcoming Art Basel Miami Beach, which will run from 4th December to 8th December in 2024 and has the most interesting plans for the Art Basel Shop, which has the most plans that fuse creativity with technology. Given its phenomenal growth, the shop is set to change how Art Basel’s target audience interacts with the brand. The spectacular Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 Shop will be located in the exciting Miami Beach Convention Center with an area of more than two thousand square feet, featuring an array of things to choose from. She said that the 2022 edition of the event aims to inspire a variety of people as it features items such as unique collectibles and such important aspects as modern-day designs. The asked site will be directly opposite West Lobby, sitting across Grand Ballroom and East Lobby for maximum exposure of clientele. One of the major objectives for Sara Andelman, the Parisian creative that has designed the shop, has been to strive to create an experience that captures the customers’ engagement. Andelman, who has a lineage of curating historical concept stores, hopes to transform the Art Basel Shop into the gateway of the old and new art world. The shop’s AB by Art Basel Heritage collection is an embodiment of the firm and development of Art Basel. It is a humorous and nostalgic collection that consists of a variety of beach towels, playing cards, golf balls, and other Miami-themed items, courtesy of imprints that draw on the famous 1994 Art Basel catalog. Contemporary colors like pink and mint green have been introduced, which add a twist to the timeless Art Basel look. Art Basel Shop’s Appeal Has Collaborations At its core. Art Basel Shop’s appeal rests majorly on collaborations, and such is the case of its Brazilian artist Paulo Nimer Pjota. His raw canvases are poetic, and he has fashioned a unique capsule collection for the AB by Artist line. T-shirts with tie-dye, tote bags, hats, and notepads are part of his collection, which depict his quest for history and pop culture. Nimer Pjota is expected to meet his fans on December 5 for a signing session hosted at the Grand Ballroom location. The shop also showcases the works of well-known names, including Kenny Scharf and Tyler Hobbs, who have all their Christmas ornaments hand-painted by British artists Kaye Donachie and Sola Olulode. https://lnkd.in/gpPXF6Q6 Art Basel

In what can only be considered a heartening development, U.S. federal authorities and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office returned a staggering twelve hundred artifacts worth about ten million dollars, marking a significant turning point in India’s continuing efforts to combat the looming threat that endangers the country’s cultural heritage. The artifacts that were part of this historical occasion have profound significance as they relate to a number of religions. This demonstrates a collective international effort to end the illegal trade of Indian antiquities and return these historical assets to their rightful owners. Pottery, paintings, sculptures, and a myriad of other items that are firm indicators of India’s vast occupational and cultural diversity have become the subject of clandestine international smuggling for years. This is not the first time that Indian antiques have faced international scrutiny, as individuals such as Nancy Wiener and Subhash Kapoor have gained notoriety for their trading of these relics in various unregulated markets. The problem is huge: traffickers destroy temples, sell parts of them, which are then recreated out of the original pieces in foreign lands. In particular, the case of Kapoor shows the dark web of smuggling, as he directed the exit of great things such as the sandstone dancer and Tanesar Mother Goddess from India to New York galleries. Apart from ‘borrowed’ artifacts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has also been under the radar for some time as one among many leading global institutions. For instance, the celestial dancer sculpture can be seen as a sacred piece of art that was robbed off a temple in Madhya Pradesh and then given to the Met for display for decades. In like manner, the Tanesar Mother Goddess, which was stolen from Rajasthan, was also there at the Met before tracing its origins to imperialism. These instances highlight the necessity of proper artifact measures before acquisition. Now, institutions like the Met are increasing the measures toward establishing the provenance of artifacts as an indication of the current positive trend within the global art society. But these efforts ought to be stepped up if stolen artifacts are to be located and returned back. https://lnkd.in/gphAVwbQ

This year, Art Mumbai will further establish itself as a vital center for communication and cultural relations as well as a center for creative quests aimed at fostering love for art both domestically and globally. The motto behind the inception of Art Mumbai is to connect India’s rich artistic culture with the world of art. Art Mumbai was established by a group of people composed of enthusiasts, curators, and collectors devoted to Indian art. Featuring Indian and South Asian artists and fostering cross-border cooperation, on the other hand, Art Mumbai was introduced as a new venture to the world. Given Mumbai’s status as a cultural hub of India, Art Mumbai’s founders opted for this colorful town in hopes that it would serve as a bridge to India’s developing art market. Art Mumbai is also a space where cultural production goes beyond received notions of countries and brings different perspectives to contribute to a global discourse on art, culture, and identity. Art Mumbai actively seeks to go beyond the beauty of the art displayed by presenting a wide range of themed information and fostering critical discourse on the maturing of the art world. Going through thematic, technological, and socio-political changes, the art fair appeals to people to look at art in a whole new light. Art Mumbai 2024 amasses all three spheres of development—technology, design, and multimedia—into their displays, assuring that it will be appealing to art enthusiasts but also newcomers. https://lnkd.in/gyQkUe4i Art Mumbai

A new era was set in the world of art on November 7, 2024, when the work of Ai-Da, the first ever hyper-realist robot artist, was able to sell in a New York’s auction at Sotheby’s for the astonishing sum of $1 million. There were other bidders from across the globe who took a keen interest in the painting, A.I. God: Portrait of Alan Turing. This softens the ground, creating a terrific example for AI-created artistic images. The sale is not just a great economic success but also a controversial achievement that prompts interesting problems for the future of art—the issues of authorship and artificial intelligence in creativity. Ai-Da: A Robotic Artist And Her Story In the words of British art gallerist Aidan Meller, Ai-Da is much more than just a machine; in fact, she is a multi-faceted artwork herself. Her story started in the year 2019 when Aidan Meller teamed up with engineers, roboticists, and AI researchers from Oxford University and Engineered Arts. Her design was meant to have full autonomy over her painting abilities, as she was built with precise AI algorithms equipped with HD cameras coupled with robotic arms powered by hydraulics. This treatment allowed Meller’s creation not only to visualize but also to process information as well as actively engage in painting where no. The direct interaction of human hands with the painting was a necessity rather than a standard norm. https://lnkd.in/gnTTuvA7
