It has been 5 months since I left Amazon to start Tailored AI, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team. When we started, our primary metrics were to maximize the number of projects and clients, even at the expense of profitability, to ensure long-term success. Instead, not only were we able to complete 15+ projects with 10+ clients during this period, we also remained profitable. We've built everything cool happening in the AI world, including complex RAG chatbots, voice bots, document parsing tools, speech and text analyzers, vision solutions, and much more. This has given us a comprehensive knowledge base to help scale our company. A lot of this success was driven by the talented engineers we hired early on from top-tier tech schools in the country. This bet proved right, as it helped us take on more innovative and complex projects and complete easier projects faster than anyone else in the industry. We intend to keep the momentum going and need to onboard more talented engineers to our team to do so. We just completed our first Computer Vision (CV) project, and I couldn’t be prouder of the the team. In CV, the reason some products are not available in the market is because they are extremely tough to build as general solutions. Yet, taking on tough problems and devising innovative, frugal solutions to address them is why we started Tailored AI in the first place. Differentiating yourself in a cluttered services market is critical when you are starting out. We did it by offering outcome based pricing. While building AI models from scratch, customers are always gambling with their money. If the model does not perform at the required accuracy in production, the project budget goes down the drain with nothing to show for. We believe in long term partnerships, and in a partnership, either you both win or you both lose. To walk the talk, this was our first experiment with outcome based pricing, where we only received the payment in full for ensuring that the model accuracy was above a certain threshold. This widely differs from the market trend where pricing is determined solely by the “Dev-Hours” consumed. We had several learnings, but ultimately, we're very happy with the outcome, and so is our customer, Kelp. Kelp has one of the most comprehensive prescriptive decision making platforms for Private Equity investors that I have ever seen. With a database of millions of companies and hundreds of fields, Kelp helps private equity investors identify investment critical information about any company within 2 minutes using their proprietary algorithm. In this project, we helped Kelp build out a module that surfaces such investment-critical insights from employee reviews. Here is how we did it.

When you start a Services business, you need one big “Hero Customer” who boosts your presence in the industry massively. They become your customer not because you have a massive portfolio proving your capabilities, but because they trust you as founders. I believe that for us, the Hero Customer is Khatabook, the world’s fastest growing SaaS company and a household name for MSMEs in India. We were fortunate enough to work on a critical project for the customer and were able to deliver a working solution within 3 days that addressed their problem. Here is a case study of how it went.
