🏷 SHG is one of the least known schemes of GOI but has created major impact in the life of rural women's. ⭕ Introduction. Self help group is a association of people who come together for their betterment. This is a NGO and is controlled and governed by group members. ⭕ History India has always been a country of association. We can track it's root from barter system. But in structured and organised society we find its roots from Self-employed Women's Association (SEWA) in 1972. Nabard in 1992 formed the SHG Linkage a microfinance project and since then RBI has allowed the Self help group (SHG) to open savings bank account. ⭕ Function of SHG Generally SHG are formed by association of 10-20 people and choose authority among them. They are provided training and support from government schemes and according to their skills they generate income. With their income and savings they provide collateral free loan at low rate. ⭕ Advantages of SHG Financial- They act as microfinance bank in rural areas to find collateral free loans. Gender equality- This scheme is mainly focused towards the poor and marginal section of society and women and provide financial assistance in many ways. Alternative source of income- lending loan generate interest amount which is shared among the members. Skilling- Through SHG GOI and different states government provide training and development program along with capital to start own business. Like dairy, farming, pottery etc. ⭕ Conclusion- SHG is for creating impact in the society through training and capital investment. And government is also providing lots of benefit to SHG.
