Winding down an action-packed day of engagements and exploration, Consul General Mike Hankey toured Daman, checking out the Moti Daman Fort, archives at the Daman Municipal Council, vibrant street art, and admiring the scenic shoreline of the city.

After a riveting morning in Udvada, Consul General Mike Hankey made his way to Daman for an engaging roundtable conversation with industrialists and entrepreneurs, hosted by Mayor Aspi Damania. They discussed the trade and business landscape of Daman including the participation of women in the workforce, decarbonization and recycling efforts, and initiatives for tech innovation.

Productive discussion over a factory tour with Chairman Hitesh Doshi and CEO Amit Paithankar of Waaree Energies, one of India’s leading solar panel makers. Waaree is establishing its first U.S. solar module manufacturing site in Brookshire, Texas. Together, the United States and India can shape the future of clean energy for a sustainable planet. Looking from past to future Consul General Mike Hankey gained insight into the cultural heritage of the Parsi community in India at the Zoroastrian Museum and Information Center in Udvada. He also joined a bright group of students from Sheth Pirojsha Pallonji High School and Gujarat Prathmik Shala, and appreciated how the history, beliefs and practices of Zoroastrianism continue to be a vital thread in the tapestry of India and contribute to Udvada’s prosperity. #USIndiaFWDfortheFuture

On his first visit to the heritage town of Udvada in Gujarat, Consul General Mike Hankey viewed the sacred Iranshah Fire Temple, and met with Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor to learn about the history of Zoroastrianism and the contribution of the Parsi community to India’s religious pluralism and cultural fabric.
