  • Today is #BirdsDay Do you know there is a vital connection between lakes-trees-birds? At the Sarakari Guttahalli and Ganagalu lakes in Bengaluru that are being restored by UWBe, we observed a profound connection between birds, trees, and lakes that highlights the delicate harmony of nature 🌿🦜 🌊 Lakes are vital habitats for birds, especially waterbirds, providing them food and shelter. 🌳 Trees act as nesting sites and shelter for birds while also preventing soil erosion, contributing to the health of these aquatic ecosystems. 🦅 Birds being nature's unsung heroes, offer ecosystem services like pest control, pollination, seed dispersal, and nutrient cycling. Birds are also bio-indicators, offering insights into ecosystem health and early warnings of environmental shifts. Together, the lake-bird-tree connection creates a thriving ecosystem. 📸 All images captured at Sarakari Guttahalli and Ganagalu lakes by Deepak D #LakeConservation #WaterConservation #EnvironmentConservation #Biodiversity #BirdsOfIndia #SustainableDevelopment #UnitedWayBengaluru #LakeInterventions #NatureConservation #WetlandRestoration

"Walking Through Wonders: A Journey to Attappady's Hidden Hamlet- Thudakki" There are journeys that leave you humbled, and our visit to Attappady in Palakkad district was one such experience.Attappady, nestled among the serene hills, is a treasure trove of natural beauty and vibrant tribal culture.Spread across 745 sq.km, it is home to the Irula, Muduga, and Kurumba communities, who have preserved their traditions amidst the challenges of modern life As part of a new project proposal to be submitted to the ST Development Department of the state of Kerala, Pravin and I ventured into four hamlets,Nallasinga, Bhoodivazhi, Karara, and Thudakki. We wanted to study the gaps in terms of nutrition among children, pregnant and lactating mothers, adolescent boys and girls.Among the hamlets,Thudakki stood out,not just because it’s the most interior hamlet but because of the stories it held. Accompanied by Murugan and Muthu, two passionate tribal promoters, we set off on what would become an unforgettable journey. The trek to Thudakki was an adventure like no other. Vehicles could only take us so far, and from there,we walked 4.5 km through rugged paths and dense greenery. At every turn, the beauty of Attappady left us in awe of the rustling leaves, the whispering winds, and the clear blue skies.Yet, what struck us most was the thought of the people here elders, children, and even pregnant women walking these same paths every single day as part of their routine. It was a humbling realization of the resilience and strength of the human spirit. Halfway through our walk, the Bhavani River appeared like a dream. Its waters, pure and crystal-clear, quenched our thirst and refreshed our souls.Muthu and Murugan shared noolputtu and kadala curry with us,a simple meal that tasted heavenly in that moment, surrounded by nature's embrace. Finally, we arrived at Thudakki, home to the Kurumba community. With just 62 families and about 200 people, this small hamlet welcomed us with its simplicity and warmth. We spent time speaking to the people, learning about their lives, joys, and challenges Many of their children study in pre-matric hostels nearby, but beyond 10th grade, higher education becomes a distant dream. The lack of inclusivity and the challenges of blending into general society leave many young minds unfulfilled.Their diet is basic rice and locally available greens and health resources are scarce.Despite these hardships, the people of Thudakki embody a quiet strength and unwavering spirit. Their connection to the land and their deep-rooted traditions speak of a life rich in values, love, and community bonding As we walked back from Thudakki, we carried not just memories of breath-taking landscapes but also stories of resilience, hope, and the urgent need for change. This journey wasn’t just about visiting a place it was about connecting with a way of life that reminded us of the beauty of simplicity and the power of community Pravin Yedurkar United Way of Bengaluru

  • #ThreadsOfTransformation "Transforming lives through better nutrition! 🌱 As a part of the #BornLearningCampaign, United Way of Bengaluru's program is supporting to improve the nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers with the help of Anganwadi workers. #Nutrigarden or #PoshanVatikas or in simple terms ‘#KitchenGarden’ is a way to offer locally grown produce to women and children directly from the garden located at or near an #AnganwadiCentre. 🥬 🥕 This ensures a regular supply of nutritious vegetables and herbs to the Anganwadis and ensures the rate of #malnutrition is reduced for children. This has a scope to improve enrollment rate, retention and learning outcomes for the children. 💫 The  Kitchen Garden concept also complements the Government of India’s #MissionPOSHAN2.0 which focuses on addressing the challenges of malnutrition in children by strategically shifting #nutrition content and delivery while creating an ecosystem that promotes health, wellness, and immunity through Nutri-gardens. • #LifeAtUWBe Every great day begins with a comforting cup of  hot tea or coffee. It’s more than just a drink—it’s a moment of calm before the hustle, a spark of energy to fuel ambitions, and a companion to all the brainstorming and creativity that unfolds. Here’s to mornings made brighter and ideas brewed stronger, one perfect cup at a time! ☕✨ A heartfelt shoutout to Sulakshana, who tirelessly makes more than 50 cups of hot beverages—from lemon tea to coffee and classic chai—twice a day for the entire team.
