There’s something deeply symbolic about the way women are stepping into the world of investing today. It mirrors the broader strides they’ve taken in every sphere – from breaking glass ceilings to shaping industries.
Just the other day, I overheard two women animatedly discussing SIPs and portfolio diversification over coffee. It wasn’t just a casual conversation; it felt like a snapshot of progress.
And the numbers agree – there are 10 crore registered investors on NSE, and out of that, 22% are female investors. Since 2015, the number of female investors in the Indian stock market has increased by 6.8 times.
And yet, beneath this progress lies a paradox. While more women than ever are stepping into the world of investments, many do so tentatively, unsure of their footing.
Without foundational literacy, investing often feels like following GPS instructions blindly, without understanding the route.
This is where the gap becomes glaring: the “why” behind every investment decision. Why this mutual fund? Why this stock? Why this asset allocation? The “why” is what bridges the divide between participation and empowerment.
The journey toward financial empowerment isn’t just about increasing numbers or creating more women investors.
It’s about ensuring that every woman who takes that first step does so with clarity and confidence, knowing exactly why she’s on this path and what she’s working toward.
The message is simple: you don’t have to know everything about investing to begin, but you do have to begin. Seek knowledge, ask questions, and find YOUR tribe.
At Valtrust, we are focusing on making the investment journeys of every woman filled with purpose. Through EmpaHer, we aim to create safe, inclusive spaces for women to not only learn about investing but to understand the deeper “why” behind their financial choices.
Let’s extend the dialogue on this.
What do you think, how do we move from rising participation to true financial empowerment for women?
