Meet Prince – a 4.5-year-old male Shih Tzu who came with a chronic skin condition persisting for over two years. Clinical Presentation: Prince’s pruritic score was a concerning 8/10. His skin displayed: Generalized severe alopecia Erythematous inflammation Excoriation and hyperkeratosis Both ears were severely affected, with intense itching, hyperkeratosis, dry wax accumulation, and a foul odor. Diagnosis: Diagnostic tests included: Cellophane tape test Impression smear Skin scrapings Findings revealed: Malassezia (++++) Cocci (++++) Nuclear streaming (+++) No mites were observed. Treatment & Outcome: Prince was started on a comprehensive treatment plan, combining topical therapies with parenteral medications. With consistent follow-ups, timely interventions, and a carefully tailored management strategy, Prince made an incredible recovery. Today, he’s back to being the lively, happy dog he was meant to be—truly living up to his name, Prince.
