However, due to medication tolerability, toxicity, and cost optimization associated with the emergence of highly potent drugs, dual therapy has emerged as a new therapeutic alternative for patients with viral suppression. Observational studies worldwide are being conducted to assess the effectiveness of dual therapy in people living with HIV/AIDS. A real-world study is important to validate the findings obtained in controlled studies. Objective: Assess the effectiveness of dual therapy with lamivudine and dolutegravir compared to triple therapy in real-life settings. Methods: The study was conducted at São José Infectious Diseases Hospital, a tertiary referral hospital in the state of Ceará, northeast Brazil, for the treatment of PLWHA. #DualAntiretroviralTherapy #Dolutegravir #DrugResistance #Induction-Maintenance #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

Determination of the Resistivity Indices (RI) of the intra-renal arteries is an emerging non-invasive tool that could predict renal disease. Aims & objectives: To determine the renal volume, parenchymal pattern, as well as the RI of the intra-renal arteries by Doppler ultrasonography in adult HIV/AIDS patients and correlate findings with CD4 count, viral load and serum creatinine. Materials & methods: This is a comparative cross-sectional descriptive study that involved sonographic assessment of the renal dimensions, parenchymal echogenicity, and Doppler velocimetry of the segmental intra-renal arteries in 100 apparently healthy confirmed HIV-seronegative control subjects and an equal number of confirmed HIV-seropositive adult patients at Retroviral (RV) clinic of our hospital. A Doppler ultrasound machine with a 3.5MHz Curvilinear probe was used. Data analysis: Data obtained was analyzed and presented as means which were compared using Student’s t - test, and p values < 0.05 at 95% intervals were considered significant. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to assess correlation. #Kidney #HIV/AIDS #DopplerUltrasound #ViralLoad #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

https://lnkd.in/gY5AXXnq Article title: Prevalence and pattern of psychological disorders among key populations living with HIV/AIDS: findings from ECEWS supported global fund IMPACT project OSS centers in Southern Nigeria Author(s): Okezie Onyedinachi*, Raphael Aguanunu, Grace Jimbo, Esther Essien, Andy Eyo, Rebecca Badejo, Ngozi Okeke, George Odutuga and Olufemi Oke Journal: Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research Journal ISSN: 2455-3786 Abstract: Nigeria ranks third among countries with the highest burden of Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) infection in the world. The 2019 Nigeria National HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey showed that 1.9 million people were living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria as of 2018 [1]. People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) are faced with daily interpersonal, social, physical, and psychological challenges as a result of their HIV status which also increases their vulnerabilities to various health conditions [2]. These conditions are worse for the key populations living with HIV because their activities are often criminalized in most parts of the world. As a result, they face intersecting socio-economic and structural inequalities that may increase their risk of mental health problems across their life course [3]. This includes but is not limited to psychosocial conditions such as discrimination, stigmatization, low self-esteem, and low self-efficacy that usually predispose them to mental health challenges. Key populations are defined groups who, due to specific higher-risk behavior, are at increased risk of HIV infection irrespective of the epidemic type or local context [4]. They include men who have sex with men (MSM), Female Sex Workers (FSW), People Who Inject Drugs (PWID), transgender people and people in prisons. #PsychologicalDisorders #HIV/AIDS #Populations #SouthernNigeria #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

https://lnkd.in/gSPuNtP3 Article title: Breastfeeding and women living with HIV: Is it possible to move beyond the avoidance? Author(s): Annunziata Carlea*, Laura Letizia Mazzarelli, Laura Sarno, Caterina Fulgione, Dalila Mantelli and Maurizio Guida Journal: Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research Journal ISSN: 2455-3786 Abstract: The risk of mother-to-infant transmission of HIV 1 during breastfeeding ranges from 10% to 15% in the absence of maternal Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) and infant Antiretroviral (ARV) prophylaxis. WHO guidelines 2016 recommend women living with HIV and fully supported for ART adherence should breastfeed for at least 12 months and up to 24 months or longer. Anyway, in high-income settings, women living with HIV are suggested to avoid breastfeeding, regardless of maternal viral load or antiretroviral therapy status. The advantages of breastfeeding in low and middle-income settings are well recognized. This brief narrative review aims to summarize existing evidence on mechanisms and risk factors for HIV transmission during breastfeeding and the possible prevention strategies in the context of ART adherence. #HIV #Breastfeeding #Transmission #AntiretroviralTherapy #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

https://lnkd.in/g26WRyvX Article title: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, more than an encephalopathy Author(s): David Sáez M*, Nadia Valdés R, Cristian Fernández M and Rocío Pacheco E Journal: Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research Journal ISSN: 2455-3786 Abstract: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is a pathology associated with the presence of the JC virus, although it occurs in other conditions, nowadays most cases occur in patients with AIDS, in severe stages of immunosuppression. This condition, and hence its name, has always been associated with the presence of intracerebral lesions, where it can have a wide distribution. However, it is very rare, if ever, to report lesions of this disease in the spinal cord. We present a case of a 40-year-old patient, an HIV carrier in the AIDS stage, who, in addition to presenting brain lesions, had multiple lesions at the cervical spinal cord level. We believe that these lesions may be more common than believed and should be intentionally sought if possible. #LEMP #HIV #AIDS #Mielitys #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

https://lnkd.in/g7Xy6vNe Article title: Prevalence of Cryptosporidium species among HIV/AIDS patients in Sub Saharan Africa; Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Author(s): Ephrem Awulachew*, Kuma Diriba, Aschalew Gemede and Feven Wudneh Journal: Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research Journal ISSN: 2455-3786 Abstract: Background: Cryptosporidium species is increasingly recognized as a leading cause of diarrheal disease with life threatening condition in HIV/AIDS patients. Cryptosporidium species is one of the AIDS defining illnesses and associated with an increased risk of death compared to other AIDS-defining illnesses. Objective: To systematically review prevalence of Cryptosporidium species among HIV/AIDS patients in Sub Saharan Africa. Methods: A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted on PubMed, EMBASE, African Journal Online (AJOL) and advanced Google Scholar. The reference lists of all identified articles were searched for additional studies. Meta-analyses were carried out using review manager 5.3, comprehensive meta-analysis and R software version 3.6.1. Evidence for statistical heterogeneity of results was assessed using Cochrane Q x2 test and I2 statistic. Results: A total of 21 studies were included in the systematic review. Meta-analysis by random effect model showed that the estimated pooled prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection in people with HIV infection was 11 % (678/6,262; 95% CI: 7–16%). We demonstrated that CD4 level was significantly related to Cryptosporidium infection, where the highest risk patients are those with CD4 level < 200 cells/μl (OR: 6.039, 95% CI: 4.441- 8.212, P< 0.0001). The funnel plot demonstrated that there was no publication bias. #AIDS #CryptosporidiumParvum #HumanImmunodeficiencyVirus #Opportunistic #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

https://lnkd.in/gHffite8 Article title: Trends in HIV Clinical Trials Worldwide over the Last Two Decades – Equity at stake? Author(s): Melvin George, Sree Harinadh K* and Subramaniyan K Journal: Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research Journal ISSN: 2455-3786 Abstract: Background: The study aims to determine the secular trends in HIV trials among the developed nations as well as regions with a high burden of HIV infection in the last two decades. Methods: Using the clinical trials.gov database, we identified the number of trials registered in the years 2000 to 2019 in developed nations as well as countries with a high burden of HIV. We used the search word “HIV infection” under Advanced Search option. We also searched for country specific no.of trials from the developed nations as well as the most populated regions in Africa and those with a high burden of HIV infection. Results: The total number of trials registered worldwide during the study period in HIV infection was 6236 during the period. Among these, 5825 studies fitted within our study criteria. In these studies, 52.5% of studies were done in the USA. The countries reporting maximum no of trials apart from USA, included France (7.3 %), Canada (5.4%) and UK (3%). Among African nations the countries with the most number of trails included South Africa (8.1%), Kenya (3%), Uganda (4%), Tanzania (2%), and Egypt (1%). Although countries such as Swaziland, Lesotho, and Botswana have a high burden of HIV infection, the number of trials with HIV from these countries is less than 1 % of the total HIV trials. All nations also showed a steady increase in the number of trials during the period. #ClinicalTrials #HIVInfection #Burden #Worldwide #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

According to WHO around 8 million cases of Tuberculosis occur each year, which resulting in approximately 3 million deaths and the situation is more complicated due to emergence of multidrug-resistant TB. It is the leading cause of death worldwide and results from a single infectious agent, ranking over HIV/AIDS. In 2017, Tuberculosis caused an estimated of 1.3 million deaths among HIV-negative people and additional there were 300 000 deaths from Tuberculosis among people living with HIV. Globally around 10.0 million people which ranges from 9.0–11.1 million were developed Tuberculosis in 2017 which accounts 5.8 million men and 3.2 million women and along with 1.0 million were children’s. There were cases with all age groups reported worldwide but overall about 90% were adults (aged ≥15 years) and 9% were people living with HIV [1]. Rifampin and Isoniazid are two first line drugs involved in the treatment of TB when the resistantance was developed against these two drugs they are termed as multi drug resistant (MDR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis. #katG Ser315Thr #MycobacteriumTuberculosis #InfectedPatients #PCR -RFLPA #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS

However, many studies have shown high mortality. But the factors associated with this high mortality are poorly characterized. So this retrospective cohort study aims to determine mortality and identify predictors of it among patients on ART at Hiwotfana specialized university Hospital (HFSUH). Result: A total of 61 (11.9%) deaths were observed giving an overall mortality rate of 2.8 per 100 person years. Advanced WHO stages (hazard ratio (HR) =3.44, 95% CI: 1.73 - 6.85), baseline CD4 count less than 200cells/mm3 (HR=3.18, 955 CI: 1.671- 6.06), regimen changed (HR=23.62, 95% CI: 9.95 - 56.05), and being anemic (HR=3.23, 95% CI: 1.71 - 6.11) were the independent predictors of mortality. Patients who started AZT based initial regimen had a lower risk of mortality (HR=0.29, 95% CI=0.13 - 0.64) when compared with the D4T based regimen. #HIVPatients #ART #Predictors #Mortality #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS
