Each year, 7.2 million tonnes* of textile waste are generated, but only 10% makes it into circular value chains. The rest ends up in landfills, incinerated, or unmanaged, contributing to severe environmental and social consequences. The textile waste problem is beyond waste—it’s about a system that’s broken, fragmented, and far from circular. After an 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙬𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧 (missed it? 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙀𝙧𝙖 𝘽𝙚 𝙆𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣? Every generation has had its defining fashion moments: the flapper dresses of the 1920s, the mod miniskirts of the 1960s, or the grunge flannel of the 1990s. But what about today? With mass production and throwaway culture on the rise, we might be remembered as the "buy-and-toss" era—when convenience overtook consciousness. But there’s a shift happening. The global second-hand clothing market is booming and predicted to grow three times faster than fast fashion by 2028. This is more than just a trend; it’s a necessity and Gen Z is not following fashion trends—they are shaping them. Swipe through to see how thrifting is redefining fashion and how 𝙌𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙣 is helping make second-hand buying and selling easier and more accessible for a conscious generation. 🌍✨ Anna Boessneck Medha Ajay Alwaleed Philanthropies IKEA Foundation Saamuhika Shakti H&M Foundation

Krishna has been running the DWCC ward, collecting dry waste—and more recently, textile waste—from households and hotels. Today, he proudly shares that he’s not just managing waste but also making a profit from the textile waste he collects. But how did this transformation happen? Enviu, as part of Saamuhika Shakti—a collective of 12 organizations, including Hasiru Dala and Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF)—is working together to tackle textile waste problem and support waste entrepreneurs like Krishna by creating new opportunities for better income. Through collaborative efforts, we are creating inclusive jobs that help waste pickers lead better and more dignified lives. ⬆️ Each organization plays a unique role, supporting waste pickers in different areas with targeted interventions. Together, we’re not just creating impact—they’re driving lasting change. This video was shared at our webinar, 𝙄𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, where our team explored 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖’𝙨 𝙩𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚 and highlighted stories from the ground. Krishna’s journey is a shining example of how household and post-consumer textiles can be managed effectively with the right support and create income opportunities. This is the power of collaboration. When we tackle complex problems with multiple interventions, we build holistic solutions that the people and planet.
