As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI), Reliance Jio and Bharti airtel and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) lost 7.96 million, 1.43 million and 1.55 million mobile users respectively in September 2024. However, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited gained 0.84 million users in the same period. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) has taken several measures to combat the persistence issue of spam calls and SMS. As a result of these efforts, more than 13,000 PEs have already registered their chains with the respective access providers and further registration is in progress at a rapid pace. Access providers have sent many warning notices to all PEs and RTMs who have not yet implemented necessary changes. All PEs and TMs are advised to complete the declaration of chains on priority as any message that fails to adhere to the defined telemarketer chain will be rejected. The Department of Telecommunications ( DOT ) has directed states to “mandatorily” implement the recently notified Right of Way (RoW) rules under the Telecommunications Act, bypassing the need for a formal adoption process. Unlike the earlier system, where RoW rules required state-level adoption and charges varied across regions, the new regulations—effective from January 1, 2025—must be uniformly enforced nationwide. This change is expected to aid telecom operators and infrastructure providers in deploying and maintaining telecom towers and laying optical fibre more efficiently. ISRO - Indian Space Research Organisation and SpaceX collaborated to launch GSAT-N2 (also known as GSAT-20), ISRO’S communication satellite. The satellite was carried aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, marking a significant milestone as India’s first collaboration with the SpaceX. The satellite also incorporates a Kurz-above band (Ka-Band) high-throughput communication payload, significantly enhancing data transmission capabilities. Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) and RMZ have partnered to establish a joint platform with an investment of over $ 1.7 billion to enhance digital infrastructure in India’s rapidly growing market. RMZ has joined the venture through its subsidiary, RMZ Digital Infrastructure Partners (RDIP), forming an equal partnership between the two entities. The joint venture’s funding includes both equity and debt, with potential for additional investment to meet the increasing demand for data centre capabilities in the region. Bharti airtel has been issued an order under the Central Goods and Services Tax act, 2017, by the office of the commissioner of central goods and services tax, Delhi South Commissionerate. This order, issued under section 74 of the act, imposes a penalty of Rs 106.5 million due to alleged insufficient payment of tax liabilities for the financial year 2017-18.
