We usually expect more in terms of door noise control and maintenance from Hampton hotels (details below). Other things were good…the breakfast was good / what I would expect at a Hampton (well stocked; cut up melons in addition to the standard apples, bananas, oranges; sliced smoked sausage; nicer muffins/scones than at other hotels; two flavors of waffle batter; etc.). The room we stayed in (221) was a nice setup (plenty of room, couch area, comfy bed, huge big screen TV, clean); however, it needed some maintenance and upgraded door design. Because these were significantly lower quality than we expect at a Hampton (especially the door noise and the hot water issue), we gave a two star review. Here are things we would have preferred be different: 1. The doors in this hotel slammed shut really loudly and created quite a noisy place. We heard many doors slam shut as we were in our room that one night stay. It wasn’t people purposely slamming the doors…the doors (including ours) would slam loudly if you just let it shut on its own. You could see light from the hallway at the door edges (i.e., they did not seal well against the door frame) so sound could travel through that air space well. It would have been more like other Hamptons we’ve stayed at if the doors were buffered more. For this reason alone, we will likely look for a different hotel next time. (We expect loud doors at other hotel chains, just not Hampton.) 2. The hot water at the sink was all but nonexistent in our room (just the slightest trickle of water when the handle was positioned on the hot water side…way too small to be usable), which we didn’t notice until late at night (about 11:15pm) and we didn’t want to ask to switch rooms that late. We reported it next morning to the front desk, and they gave us a discount (20%). Hopefully they also fixed the hot water in that room before renting it to another guest. 3. The toilet didn’t flush normally…had to hold the flusher handle down for at least 10 seconds to get the water to flow enough to flush, but at least it would flush if we stood there holding the handle down until the flushing was finished. 4. The bathroom door didn’t latch closed so it could be just pushed open by someone touching the door and it couldn’t be locked because even if you engaged the lock, it didn’t work because the door didn’t latch for the lock to be effective. 5. The lighting in the room was ok, but wasn’t as good in the room as other Hamptons we’ve been at. 6. The wall had a temperature controller, but it wasn’t setup to work. Instead, the air was controlled by the controls on a window a/c / heater unit. The front desk rep was very pleasant and apologetic with us when we reported the bathroom issues, and he agreed to our request to a discount (gave us a 20% discount).
