The pool is closed, and about 1/3 full of brown dirty water. It was listed as an amenity on their site, which is one reason we chose to stay there. Found out from an employee the next day that the pool has been closed since 2019. There was no soap in the bathroom, and the shower was brown along the tub. The paint was chipping and had mold in the bathtub itself. I asked for a bath mat for the tub, and they did not have one. Flies all over the room. A/C unit filters full of dirt. No response to texts for help after welcoming check-in. A second welcoming text came but never a response, so had to go to the desk 3 or 4 times. The room had no ice bucket. Had to wait hours to get an ice bucket from another room not being used. Had to ask for hand soap that was not in the room. Was handed a bunch of mini facial soap bars. The toilet seat was cracked. Barely any toilet paper was in there and no extra rolls were provided. The only positive things were the 2 ladies working there were nice and the breakfast was good. It wasn't their fault for the horrible things listed above. Hopefully they get jobs elsewhere due to the bad conditions of the Ramada. Do not go here!

The price is super cheap, and during the epidemic, breakfast is a fruit cake. But other hotels of the same brand have richer breakfasts. Self-driving friends must be aware that we almost turned into the retrograde line of the highway. 😄

Be sure to book Comfort Suites NOT INN. Very clean. staff very courteous and helpful. Check out room before unloading luggage. Some may have a “just cleaned” smell. Avoid 2nd floor unless you have a pet. Many with pets are booked on that floor. Nearby eateries are an Outback. weekends must have reservation. BEST eatery if you like Spanish/Mexican food is: El Zarameci De Antonio, exit 19, Carthage Rd. 2310 Capuano Rd, 910-802-4381 Go easy on your order. LOTS of FOOD. and VERY reasonable prices. Breakfast at Suite very nice and complete although the eggs need work. Add seasoning!! Better if they could do fried eggs.

One would think that if a guest is checking into a hotel in an area with an active curfew, the front desk staff would inform the guest. This hotel didn't. We checked in after the curfew was in effect then ventured out to find something to eat. It seemed odd so many places were closed but we figured it was 8:30 pm on a Sunday. The police quickly made their presence known and informed us of the curfew. Thanks Quality Inn. Luckily the police took pity on us and let us know about a local Dominos which was the only place open. They made sure we returned to our hotel after we got some food. The room was in ok shape. Some areas could use some help (like the bathroom). See the attached pictures. A few weeks of reduced travel would seem like a great time to repair and touch up the hotel, but not this one. A little paint and attention to detail would go a long way. The TV was nice and the beds were comfortable but when we arrived the refrigerator was turned off and the freezer had defrosted leaving a quarter-inch of swamp smelling mold water. I'm guessing it's been turned off since the start of the pandemic. While the front desk neglected to mention the curfew, they did talk up their free breakfast. It ended up being a joke (again, see the picture). They blamed the virus yet every other hotel we stayed at during the trip managed to have fruit, cereal, bagels, English muffins, butter, jellies... you get the idea. Quality Inn put out a single tray of pinwheels and mini-muffins. Never again.

Stranded in Lumberton during Hurricane Florence in September 2018, we were forced to find accommodations during a torrential downpour at the end of dusk. This is the place that we found that was open. In pouring rain, I stood in a line behind two other travelers to endure their check-in process (at least there was a cover of the area of the walk-up window to check in. The lobby door was locked). A sign at the check-in window stated ”NO REFUNDS.” (Travelers: be wary when you see that sign. Also, travelers be wary when you see that the swimming pool has not been maintained). Because of the hurricane, we were charged $77 for the room per night. (probably some price-gouging because of the storm). The carpet was the oldest, nastiest, matted material that I have ever seen. Yes, my shoes did stick to it. The next day, I wanted to find a vending machine for a Pepsi, and a bucket of ice. The breezeways were empty with the concrete ceiling crumbling and moldy. Yes, there were signs indicating ”Ice-Vending” still hanging from overhead (even though one sign's hook had rusted away and was hanging at a 45 degree angle, pointing to an empty breezeway. Ice could to be obtained by walking to the office walk-up window. They would then tell you to meet them at the lobby door which they would then unlock for a moment to hand you a small bag of ice that had been stored in a freezer for some time. With portions of I-95 flooded, it was not possible to get back home the next day, we had to stay one more night I did use this day to explore Lumberton to see what else was available in accommodations. I found a much nicer Motel 6 to move to for our third night for $60 a night. Travelers, again, I stress, look at how they maintain their pool. The Motel 6 had crystal clear water in their pool. Of course, we checked out of the Deluxe Inn and moved to the much nicer Motel 6 for our final night in Lumberton. It is very perplexing to me that Wyndham continues to gobble old brand names, such as Travelodge, Howard Johnson's. Ramada, Day's Inn from yesteryear. Then, under their direction these old brand names will appear on such substandard properties like the Deluxe Inn in Lumberton. Wyndham, please let these old brand names die in dignity, and quit trying to destroy the positive memories of our youth. Yes, I could provide you with photographs of this experience, but I hate this place and would never consider staying here again. Wyndham, figure it out! Quit being stupid!
