Bahia Principe Grand Tulum - All Inclusive
4.1/5101 Reviews
My husband, small children ( 2 and 4), and I just returned from our 3rd year visiting Bahia Principe Grand Tulum. The first two years the resort was exceptional. The food, the entertainment, the facilities, and above all else the staff. Every single year the servers at the buffet and bartenders have been a large part of what makes our vacation so relaxing and special. Emilia, Francisco, and Lidia at the buffet are absolute gems. They not only do a phenomenal job refilling beverages and remembering guest preferences day up day, but they are loving and go above and beyond with the children. Jorge at the Truck is also a treasure. He not only smiled and joked with my children, but he also proactively brought numerous napkins and ketchup refills so my husband and I could actually eat lunch. These staff members are amazing, hardworking, and don't get nearly enough recognition! For parents traveling with small children the staff alone is a good reason to visit this hotel. Now to the negative ( and I am so sad to have to write a negative this year!). In years past there has been a self-serve cerveza, water, And juice bar next to the children's pools. Following that it's about a 5-minute walk to the truck to go to their beverage station with the full bar. That self-serve station was vital because as a parent with young children there's no way to leave your children alone in the pool while you grab the beverage. Sadly, this year the self-serve station was not working. Which meant that either my husband or myself had to watch both children in the pool or we had to pack up the kids just to quickly walk over and get something to drink. For a five-star resort. This was quite the negative. It's a small thing, but it really impacted the quality and relaxation of our trip. Definitely something for parents with young kids to consider. Additionally, the Burger bar wasn't open which means that if you wanted a quick lunchtime snack option you could only go to the truck and that had long lines. Finally, we saw several snakes on tht property. We had never seen them in the past, and , I understand that this is the tropics and It's the snake's home first, as a parent that was still terrifying. Sadly, this may be a deal-breaker for us returning for a fourth visit.

We enjoy this hotel so much we have stayed every time we are in Tulum! The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, the jungle view is beautiful. We have stayed in many of the different rooms but our favorite is the one bedroom suite with balcony. The terrace suite is nice too, but the terrace isn’t covered so when it rains you lose that space. We love how accommodating and friendly the staff are. I think I lost something every day we were there last time (swimsuit coverup, sandals, car keys) and they were right there to make sure I was reunited with my items. The breakfast staff was great, they made sure you had everything you wanted and again, always a smile to great you. The bar staff was excellent also, we mainly ate at the downstairs bar and had our food delivered poolside. It didn’t take long for them to know our favorites! Make sure you take advantage of the 2 free drinks and the twentyish dollars in credit you get each night. The rooftop pool is reserved for adults, but during the day if no one is up there, they did allow our son to get in (he is 10). The rooftop pool is great, it is an infinitely edge looking out at the jungle. The downstairs pool feels more intimate. The housekeeping staff is also on point, we often only have housekeeping when we need it, a few days in to our stay usually, but the day we had it done everything was perfect upon our return, and the toys my son had bought were cutely arranged on his bed (which they also made up properly for us!). The location is great for nearby restaurants (which I found to be better than the ones on the beach) and renting a car or scooter. Take advantage of the lagoon snorkeling trip they offer as well, you have to rent the snorkel gear but the entrance fee and the transportation fee are included. In Tulum transportation so expensive!! We did not do the beach transportation but they do offer that. They also have a laundry facility! We brought detergent and quarters with us. If we were to come back to Tulum we would stay here again.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but after this wild experience, I had no choice. I was absolutely disgusted by the treatment I received at this hotel. I booked the hotel for a women’s retreat and interacted with 3 different people over the course of my time at the hotel. The first person checked us in and I informed him that Oke of the participants had COVID and wouldn’t be attending and the other person would be staying with me to nanny for my child. He said okay he would let the manager know and they would remove it from the bill. He took a deposit for the 5 rooms ($50 per day). He told us breakfast was served at the sister hotel, Zenses and we should eat there after yoga in the morning. He also informed us that while the website says bikes are complimentary, they don’t offer bikes and the beach is actually an hour away, not 30 minutes! What the hell? The next day, another woman asked for the remaining balance on the room. I asked if that was customary because I am used to paying that upon departure and she said yes, so I paid the balance. The day before our departure, I interacted with a 3rd woman who was very rude, impatient and said she was charged two rooms that weren’t even in my party for breakfast. I told her breakfast was included. I asked for her name. She refused to give it to me so I sent a screenshot of her to the manager and he failed to respond. She called the manger and both of them very rudely said breakfast was not included and told me they would be charging me for the room my nanny didn’t use and for breakfast, even though it was included. I requested a print out of my payment. They couldn’t provide it for a while and finally provided a document that was inaccurate I challenged them and questioned them over and over and they failed to address the issue or provide any type of resolve. I also advocated for bikes and when we took them out, the pedal fell off and we had to rely on the help of strangers to get us back because no one at the hotel was willing to come get us or support the issue. In addition, our rooms were not cleaned daily, despite the multiple requests. I had to come and get tissue, washcloths and empty the trash. Absolutely terrible service! I have been going back and forth with the “owner” for a while and he has ceased responding because there is 0 accountability. There’s also construction across the street constantly and wild dogs running around, it’s just not worth it. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!! IT’S NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE!!
Eterna Tulum

La Veleta
There are a few important things to note if you want to stay at Eterna (as we would not suggest staying here): Location: the hotel is located close to the Centro strip if that is where you want to be located. However after we got to Tulum we realised that the beach, popular Tulum restaurants, popular cenotes and nightlife are ~20 minutes from the hotel. A taxi one way to these locations is approximately 900 pesos, so if you stay at Eterna you will need a car or scooter to get around, which is what the check-in staff member suggested upon our arrival. This was a shock to us and other guests who did not know how expensive taxis were in Tulum (especially since 20 minutes does not seem that far anywhere else in Mexico). The hotel is located on a side street with a very rough driveway, so you will need to take care when driving through here. The hotel itself is located right next to a landfill (more detail on this in the breakfast section below). Our stay: we recommend you confirm your room with the staff prior to your stay. We were on our honeymoon and the check-in staff allocated us in a worse room than the one we booked, even though it was booked 6 months+ in advance of our stay. This took a lot of back and forth before they actually gave us the room we booked / paid for. Even though we paid a daily cleaning fee, our room was not cleaned once during our stay and we had to beg for fresh towels and toilet paper 4 times until we were walked to the facility cupboard to get them ourselves. We did not mind the beds / room not being made but constantly asking for fresh towels / toilet paper became a bit ridiculous when multiple front desk staff were sitting on their phones. Breakfast: the breakfast is located across the road at a local cafe. Fruit is supposed to be available from 8am and full breakfast from 9am. We were advised by WhatsApp message the day we checked in that breakfast service is slow as it is local cuisine, which we we did not mind. However, the fruit option is a box of largely half rotten bananas and apples, and the chef will come make you whatever he feels like eating at whichever time he decides to come in the morning, which for us was around 10.30 am. The chef made 3 vegetarian tacos for breakfast, and that was all that was included in the breakfast fee paid to the hotel with no options for any other breakfast items. To top it off, the cafe is literally located next to a landfill where you will smell garbage all morning and listen to the worker there loudly crush garbage while you are eating breakfast. One positive point is that the rooms look like their photos and are aesthetically pleasing, spacious and modern. This is the only positive point of Eterna. All in all, there are similar hotels that are located on the beach for the same price. I do not see how this hotel considers itself to be a 4 star hotel. Save your money and hassle of organising last minute car / scooter rental, save any stress you will suffer from booking h
Tago Tulum by G Hotels

Zona Hotelera
We had an amazing time at Tago for our honeymoon. We stayed for 9 days. The rooms were beautifully situated right on the beach with private pools. They were also very big, comfortable and had air conditioning. It was not too busy being low season, which was perfect as it felt like everything was just for us. The food was amazing and the staff really went out of their way to make sure the trip was perfect. Betty helped book trips, activities and anything else with needed, she was amazing! Also supported by Luis and the great bartender Aimee who made some unique tasty drinks. We received desserts to the room each night and welcome messages in the sand every morning. The location was perfect and allowed for a 15 minute walk down the beach to other restaurants and cafes. Could not have asked for a better experience.
Hotel Muaré

Hotel Muare is one of the more popular hotels in the Tulum area. It is a perfect getaway if you want to have a quiet time from the hustle-and-bustle of the city to recharge. The rooms are designed to look like houses in the remote places but with all the modern amenities. It also is a great option for someone who cares about staying at an Instagrammable hotel/resort. There is one restaurant which provides good food. Negatives: -Getting to the hotel will require you to drive through really broken dirt road with several pits. -While the food options are good, if you’re someone with a dietary restrictions - e.g., vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, don’t eat red meat or raw fish, etc. you may run out of options quickly. The staff is flexible though, so they may customize few dishes for your suiting. -In general Tulum is expensive. However, Muare is up a notch. While it was a great place to stay, the price didn’t seem justifiable to me. Specially, since I don’t care as much about capturing Instagrammable photos. -While the staffs are helpful and friendly, their extreme focus on getting money out of you is just off putting. Examples: we planned to have food by the pool and it took them forever to get us the food. They missed certain items in the order. We also had issues with our food (fly in maple syrup) which was still fine (since bugs/insects can fall in your food when you live in the nature). However, when we reported and asked for a replacement, they never returned with the fresh maple syrup. Finally, I had to go to the restaurant and pick it up myself. However, when it came to asking you to pay, they would run behind you to get your sign. On top of that, there is a default tip amount included in the bill which some of them may not even care to mention to you. While checking out as well, they added a hefty service charge to the bill - this on top of the already expensive booking fee. Overall, my review is that it is a good place to stay. However, too expensive and the cost is not really justifiable. Plus for the good service they provide, it is really off putting when you see how focused they’re on getting more money out of you in any way possible.
