The Israeli military confirmed on Saturday they had recovered the body of Ron Binyamin, 53, in Gaza.

He was found along with three others whose bodies were identified on Friday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) chief military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said.

Mr Binyamin had been among the 252 people captured by Hamas-led Palestinian gunmen who opened fire at the Nova music festival, more than seven months ago, that triggered the ongoing war.

According to military intelligence, all four had been killed on October 7 and taken into Gaza.

The names Amit Buskila, 28, Itzhak Gelerenter, 56, and Shani Louk, 22, were announced on Friday. They had been fleeing the festival near the Re’im kibbutz when they were killed.

Video footage shortly after the Hamas attack purportedly showed the body of Ms Louk, a German-Israeli tattoo artist, being paraded through the streets of Gaza, surrounded by armed fighters.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the deaths “heartbreaking,” added: “We will return all of our hostages, both the living and the dead.”

The IDF has not given details on where the bodies were located although Israel has been operating in the Gaza Strip’s southern city of Rafah, where it says it has intelligence that hostages are being held.

There was no immediate comment from Hamas.

In the October 7 attack, 1,200 people were killed, according to Israeli tallies. About 125 people are still being held in Gaza.

The identification of Mr Binyamin came as Israeli troops and tanks pushed into parts of the northern Gaza Strip district on Saturday, killing and wounding dozens of Palestinians, medics and residents said.

Israel’s forces also took some ground in Rafah, a southern city next to the Egyptian border, which is packed with more that one million displaced Gazans – and where Israel launched this month a long-threatened incursion to crush hold-outs of Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas.

Israel has conducted renewed military sweeps this month on parts of northern Gaza where it had declared the end of major operations in January.

On Saturday, troops and tanks edged into streets so far spared the ground offensive, residents said. In one strike, medics said 15 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded.

“Today is the most difficult in terms of the occupation bombardment, air strikes and tank shelling have going on almost non-stop,” said Ibrahim Khaled, a resident in Jabalia, via a chat app.

“We know of dozens of people, martyrs (killed) and wounded, but no ambulance vehicle can get into the area.”

The Israeli military said its forces have continued to operate in areas across the Gaza Strip including Jabalia and Rafah, carrying out what it called “precise operations against terrorists and infrastructure”.

Israel’s military said 281 soldiers have been killed in fighting since the first ground incursions in Gaza on October 20.

At least 35,386 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since October 7, according to figures from the enclave’s health ministry, while aid agencies have warned of widespread hunger and dire shortages of fuel and medical supplies.

UNRWA, the main UN aid agency for Palestinians, said on Saturday that nearly 800,000 Palestinians had fled Rafah since Israel launched its ground operation there on May 6.

Israel says it must capture Rafah to destroy Hamas and ensure the country’s security.
