Supermarket opening times for the Easter 2024 bank holiday weekend – full list

Here's when Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Co-op, Waitrose and M&S are open over Easter

Easter is on the horizon and with schools off, kids across the country will be hunting for Easter eggs and preparing for the arrival of the Easter bunny.

Meanwhile, adults will be planning that Easter roast dinner, which means gathering ingredients from some of Britain’s most well-known supermarkets.

But such a simple trip to the shops can prove stressful due to unpredictable store opening times, as shops staff also take a well-earned rest over the bank holiday weekend.

So here’s what you need to know about when supermarkets are open during the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Tesco

Tesco will be open on Good Friday between 8am and 10pm, but they may open earlier depending on the store. All stores will then be closed on Easter Sunday, except in Scotland where they will remain open.

Some larger stores have also announced they will be open between 8am and 8pm on Easter Monday. Their opening hours over the Easter period vary depending on the location and size of the store.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 8am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 8am to 8pm

Morrisons

Stores will be open as usual on Good Friday from 7am until 10pm. All Morrisons supermarkets will be closed on Easter Sunday, except for those in Scotland. Stores in Scotland will be open as normal. On Easter Monday, most outlets will be open 7am to 8pm although a few will remain open until 10pm.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 7am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 7am to 8pm

Asda

Asda advises that on Good Friday, Saturday and on Bank Holiday Monday, most stores will be open from 7am to 10pm – although some stores may also open at 6am.

They will be closed on Easter Sunday, except in Scotland where they will remain open.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 7am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 7am to 10pm

Asda recommends that as times vary across their supermarkets, shoppers check their local store’s opening hours here.

Aldi

On Good Friday and Easter Saturday, Aldi stores will be open 8am to 10pm. They will then be closed on Easter Sunday, before re-opening on Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 8am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 8am to 8pm

Aldi says that some opening hours may vary, so check your local store’s opening hours here.

Lidl

Lidl is understood to be open from 8am to 8pm on Good Friday and Saturday.

All stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, except in Scotland, while on Bank holiday Monday the stores will remain open from 9am until 9pm. Customers are encouraged to check their local shop for opening times over the Easter weekend.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 8am to 10pm

  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 9am to 9pm

Co-op

As a convenience retailer, Co-op will open as usual over the Easter weekend.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 7am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – 7am to 10pm
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 7am to 10pm

However, large stores in England and Wales will close on Easter Sunday, while they will remain open in Scotland.

The Co-op recommends to check with your local store or online as opening times can vary from place to place.

Sainsbury’s

On Good Friday and Saturday, Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open from 8until 10pm – but some stores may open at 7am. On Easter Sunday, all will be closed in the UK, apart from in Scotland where stores will open in line with Sunday trading hours.

On Easter Monday, the vast majority of outlets will be open 8am to 8pm and convenience stores will open from 7am to 10pm.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 8am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 8am to 8pm

Waitrose

On Good Friday, most Waitrose will be open from 8am to 10pm, with some Little Waitrose shops opening from 6am to midnight. On Saturday, most shops will trade normal hours.

Most smaller shops will be closed on Easter Sunday, with the exception of some stores which you can view here.

On Easter Monday, the majority will be open from 8am to 8pm, with some Little Waitrose stores opening from 7am to 10pm.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 8am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 8am to 8pm

M&S

M&S’ stores will remain open on Good Friday and Easter Monday, with the majority opening between 8am and 8pm.

Most of its stores will close on Easter Sunday, except for a small number of shops open from 9am to 6pm.

  • Good Friday, March 29 – 8am to 10pm
  • Easter Sunday, March 31 – Closed
  • Bank Holiday Monday, April 1 – 8am to 8pm

The retailer hasn’t said which stores will open on Easter Sunday so you can check closing times on its store locator.
