Prince Harry will return to the UK in the coming days to see King Charles III following his cancer diagnosis, it has been reported.

The Duke of Sussex has spoken with the King about his diagnosis, a source told the Press Association.

“The duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be traveling to UK to see His Majesty in the coming days,” the source close to the Prince said.

It is not yet clear whether his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, or their with their two children, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, will accompany Prince Harry.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday that Charles, 75, was diagnosed with the disease, which is not prostate cancer, after being treated in hospital for an enlarged prostate last month.

The King has started a schedule of regular treatments, but has been advised to postpone his public-facing duties, the Palace said.

He will carry on working behind the scenes on state business and official papers, and returned from Sandringham to London on Monday to commence treatment as an outpatient.

Harry was last in the UK in September last year, when he attended the annual WellChild Awards, a charity of which he has been patron for 15 years.

It was reported at the time that the duke did not meet with the Royal family during that visit.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the US in 2020 after their decision to step down as full-time members of the Royal Family.

Since then, the couple have spent most of their time in California, and have a primary residence in Los Angeles.

A spokesperson for the couple’s Archewell Foundation confirmed last year that the King had asked them to leave Frogmore Cottage, their UK home on the grounds of Windsor Castle, following their move across the Atlantic.

Journalist Omid Scobie, who co-authored Finding Freedom – a book about the Sussexes’ departure from the royal fold – and Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, said at the time that the King’s decision was a “clear sign of just how sour relations” have become.

He suggested the request came in response to the publication of Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, in which the duke made a number of shocking claims, including that he “begged” his father not to marry Queen Camilla.

Charles was “hurt and dismayed” by some of the revelations in the book, and in particular, was “angry at his son’s claim to want to protect his and Meghan’s privacy while invading the privacy of his own family”, a royal source previously told i.

Earlier, it was announced that the Prince of Wales will carry out his first public engagements since the Princess of Wales underwent major abdominal surgery last month.

William had taken time off to support his family as Kate recovered first in hospital then returned home to Windsor to convalesce.

He will host an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday and that evening will attend the London Air Ambulance annual fundraising gala in central London, said Kensington Palace.

It is understood that William is in regular contact with the King, who was treated at the London Clinic, the same private hospital as his daughter-in-law.

William, 41, was due to return to royal engagements once Kate’s care and recovery had settled, but the 42-year-old future queen is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter.

In a statement confirming the King’s diagnosis, the Palace said: “During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.

“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.

“He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
