Manchester United will face Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals after completing victory over FC Copenhagen in the last eight.

Their La Liga opponents, coached by former Real Madrid and Spain boss Julen Lopetegui, beat Wolves 1-0 in the quarter-finals and, given their strong record in European competition, should provide a stern test for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

In the other half of the draw, Antonio Conte’s Inter – packed full of former Premier League talent – will take on Shakhtar Donetsk who demolished FC Basel in the previous round.

This season’s quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are being played as a single-leg, straight knockout tournament across four cities in Germany in August.

Inter 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen: Romelu Lukaku scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen as he tormented the Germans to lead his side into the semi-finals on Monday.

Nicolo Barella put Inter ahead after 15 minutes, driving the ball home after Lukaku’s shot was blocked, and six minutes later the Belgian got on the scoresheet when he displayed his strength by holding off defender Edmond Tapsoba before firing home.

Leverkusen attacking midfielder Kai Havertz, reported to be a transfer target of Premier League club Chelsea, pulled a goal back for the Germans but it was goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky who kept them in the game with a string of fine saves.

Lukaku showed plenty of humility after his dominant performance, saying: “To me, the man of the match is Nicolo Barella.

“The way he plays football is simply incredible – maturity, quality. He is truly a great player.”

Manchester United 1-0 (aet) FC Copenhagen: Bruno Fernandes scored a 95th-minute penalty to secure a 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen after extra time on Monday.

United, who won Europe’s second-tier competition in 2017, will next meet Sevilla for a berth in the final after grinding down their stubborn Danish opponents in an entertaining last-eight clash.

Copenhagen dominated the opening half and missed several chances before United moved up a gear in the second, hitting the woodwork twice and forcing a string of superb saves from goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson.

Fernandes settled the contest when he drilled his spot-kick past Johnsson after Anthony Martial, who saw several sitters thwarted by the keeper, was fouled by Andreas Bjelland.

Copenhagen came forward in search of an equaliser in the last 15 minutes of extra time but United’s defence, which looked shaky all evening, held out as the team booked a semi-final spot.

Shakhtar 4-1 Basel: Shakhtar Donetsk booked their clash with Inter after goals from Brazilians Junior Moraes, Taison, Alan Patrick and Dodo gave them a 4-1 win over FC Basel in a one-sided last-eight clash on Tuesday.

Shakhtar, who won Europe’s second-tier competition in 2009, missed a string of chances to win by an even bigger margin as they dominated throughout the match with crisp one-touch passing and superior close control.

Moraes headed the Ukrainian side into a second-minute lead after a howler by Basel’s Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Nikolic, who was again powerless in the 22nd minute when Taison capped a lightning Shakhtar break with a deflected shot after good work by Marlos and a clever dummy by Patrick.

Marcos Antonio rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort in the 40th minute before Patrick made it 3-0 with a 75th-minute penalty after Yannick Marchand fouled Taison in the area.

Right back Dodo put the icing on the cake for Shakhtar in the 89th minute with an unstoppable shot before Basel substitute Ricky van Wolfswinkel netted a stoppage time consolation for the Swiss from close range.

Sevilla 1-0 Wolves: Sevilla midfielder Lucas Ocampos headed a late goal to snatch a 1-0 win as they reached the semi-finals on Tuesday after the English side paid the price for an early penalty miss.

Ocampos rose to direct a cross from fellow Argentine Ever Banega past goalkeeper Rui Patricio in the 88th minute of the single leg match and earn five-times winners Sevilla a last-four clash with Manchester United.

Wolves forward Raul Jimenez missed their best chance in the 13th minute when his hesitant penalty was saved by keeper Bono.

Sevilla dominated after that although it took them until the very end of a disappointing match to break down their opponents.
