Personal accolades, even in the face of defeat, are always worth celebrating and Kylian Mbappe should revel in his setting of a new Champions League record this week.

While Paris Saint-Germain were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, Mbappe’s second-half finish saw the forward become the youngest player in the history of the competition to reach 10 goals.

It’s quite the achievement when looking at who he’s beaten and how quickly he’s hit top spot…

Making Champions League history

1. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) – 18 years, 11 months and 15 days
2. Karim Benzema (Lyon) – 20 years, 10 months and two days
3. Javier Saviola (Barcelona) – 21 years and three months
4. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – 21 years, three months and seven days
5. Raúl (Real Madrid) – 21 years, three months and 24 days
6. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) – 22 years and 14 days

A 4-0 loss to Bayern would have seen PSG surrender their position at the summit of Group B, so Mbappe’s goal was vital in calming supporters who might have thought a collapse was on the cards.

That was his ninth finish in all competitions for the club since his loan move from Monaco in the summer transfer window.
