AbstractAbstract
[en] Rotating magnetic fields can be used to drive steady currents in plasmas. In a recent publication (Fisch and Watanabe, Nucl. Fusion 22 (1982) 423), the practicality of this scheme has been assessed with regard to power requirements, the stability of particle orbits and the feasibility of driving currents across strong magnetic fields. These topics are re-examined in this paper and very different conclusions are obtained. (author)
