[en] The development of an expert system requires a good understanding of semiology and semantics. This is what experts can contribute. As radiology is a young discipline, it has been victimized by the precocious use of a set of terms. Therefore, the relationship between images and the terms ascribed to them should be reconsidered by precisely defining the elementary values of psychology and phenomenology in radiology. This redefinition is apt to increase the precision of expert systems. (Author)

[en] A short description is given of the vascular-interstitial closed electric system (VICC), its activation and effects on structure modifications in breast cancer. They include 'A' and 'B' zones, arches and arcades, development of radiating structures, circumferential structures, skin thickening, skin retraction and development of microcalcifications. All changes can be produced experimentally in in vivo and in vitro experiments as effects of the VICC principle. (Author)

[en] The barium enema has been a neglected tool in the diagnosis of early colon cancer. With appropriate attention to technical detail, the double contrast enema is capable of detecting the smallest malignant and pre-malignant lesions. Many of these early colon cancers are found in asymptomatic patients and these lesions are curable. The goal of a screening program should be to identify by history or by fecal occult blood testing patients at high risk for the development of colon cancer. These patients should be examined by high-quality double contrast enema in the search for these potentially lethal but curable lesions. In addition, we believe that any patient undergoing radiologic examination of the colon for whatever reason, should receive an examination of adequate quality to rule out an early colon cancer.
