[en] Recently, TRANSNUCLEAIRE has developed a new generation of casks for the dry storage and occasional transport of LWR spent fuel which has been cooled for 5 years, or 7 years in case of consolidated fuel rods. These casks have an optimum payload which takes into account the shielding requirements and the weight limitations at most sites. This paper deals more particularly with the TN 24 model which exists in 4 versions among which one for 24 PWR 900 fuel assemblies and antoher one for the consolidated fuel rods from 48 of same fuel assemblies

The method proposed by TRANSNUCLEAIRE allows to double the capacity of existing storage pools and transport casks. [en] The paper summarizes some aspects of the experience gained in transport of spent fuel to La Hague reprocessing plant (road, rail and sea transports) and describes the standards defined by COGEMA as regards: casks of dry type, casks of the maximum size compatible with rail transports, capability to be unloaded with standardized equipment and following standard procedures. Considering the large experience of COGEMA and, the fact that all these transports are performed in full compliance with the IAEA recommendations, COGEMA is convinced that its experience could serve to help countries or utilities willing to establish a transport system within their own country

Le present article resume quelques aspects de l'experience acquise dans les transports de combustibles irradies a destination de son usine de La Hague (par route, par fer et par mer) et decrit les principales normes definies par COGEMA en ce qui concerne les emballages de transport. Ces normes sont les suivantes: emballages de type sec, emballages de la taille maximale compatible avec le transport par fer, aptitude au dechargement selon des procedures standards et avec des equipements standardises.
