[en] After a short history of the Superconducting Super collider I will briefly describe the layout and parameters of the SSC, some of the significant accelerator research and development achievements in the last year or so, the site selection process for the SSC, the proposed budget and schedule, and activities related to detector research and development

[en] Highlights of the Physics in Collision Conference are reviewed. Selected topics which address the important questions in the future are discussed. Projections and predictions for the future are given

[en] Results from the recent Υ (3S) run at CESR from the CUSB and CLEO groups are presented. Two limits on b→u from CLEO are outlined. Future plans at CESR are discussed

[en] For the long range future of CERN, the long range planning commission has explored various options, taking into account the actual development of physics and existing facilities. The solutions envisaged are Large Hadron Collider and e⁺e^- collider (CLIC) in the 1-10 TEV range

[en] Recent Results from PEP and PETRA on lepton and hadron production by e⁺e^--annihilation, on the lifetime of bottom hadrons, and on τ-decays are reviewed with special emphasis on tests of the Standard Model

[en] Basic theoretical ideas on a phase transition to a plasma of free quarks and gluons in heavy ion collisions are outlined. First results from experiments with oxygen beams at 14.5 GeV/c/N (BNL), 60 and 200 GeV/c/N (CERN) are discussed

[en] Recent results from the UA2 experiment at the CERN p anti p collider are presented. The full statistics is used to measure the properties of the Intermediate Vector Bosons and to test the Standard Model. Searches for exotic processes are also described

[en] The first data run for CDF took place during the first five and one-half months of 1987. During this period the detector was commissioned, and a great deal of experience was obtained with the simultaneous running of CDF and the collider. The peak L increased by over a factor of ten. About 33 nb^-1 of data was written to tape from a total of 60 nb^-1 delivered by the accelerator. This contribution covers our progress on studying W and Z production and the inclusive single particle p_T spectrum in the angular region /η/ < 1

[en] Recent Progress in particle searches in the PEP/PETRA region is reviewed. The emphasis of such searches during the 1986-1987 period has been on several selected topics where improved measurements have been made. This talk will be limited to these areas of progress and includes the current status of the search for heavy neutrinos, the single photon/neutrino counting experiments, and the search for particle decays into e⁺e^- final states in electron beam fixed target experiments. Several miscellaneous new results are also discussed. These include the TPC search for second class currents and the CELLO search for high energy low thrust isolated lepton events

[en] In the present talk, I shall concentrate on the problem of the quadratically divergent Higgs masses (with supersymmetry as a potential cure) and the problem of the non-renormalizability of gravity with a possible solution given by superstring theory. In all these examples we see a quest for renormalizability and finiteness; a better theory is a theory with less divergences. Given this basic assumption, let us now discuss the standard model in more detail. Certainly, this model is not the final model of the world since it contains too many free parameters (masses, mixing angles, coupling constants). Also the more fundamental questions about the origin of the gauge group SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) and the reason for the existence of three families of quarks and leptons cannot be answered
