AbstractAbstract
[en] As part of the modelling of the potential consequences of postulated loss of coolant accidents in fusion power plant designs analysed in SEAFP, the mobilisation of activation products following a bounding accident sequence has been calculated. The thermal transient and mobilisation modelling methods are outlined and some results are presented, which show only modest temperature rises and a modest mobilisation of activation into the containment. [en] A simulation concept to generate thermomechanical fatigue data calculated from isothermal strain controlled fatigue data at maximum and minimum temperature of the thermal cycle is presented. The number of cycles to failure of thermomechanical fatigue data can be predicted by a failure criterion. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The removal of nickel from solution in Pb-17Li has been shown to be possible by adding manganese to the Pb-17Li. Experiments using the Anapurna loop with a cold trap temperature of 523 K and an alloy temperature of 673 K have shown that nickel concentrations as low as 1 wppm may be achieved by this method. AbstractAbstract
[en] The multi-institutional ARIES team has completed a series of four steady-state and two pulsed cost-optimized conceptual designs of commercial tokamak fusion power plants. The level of advances assumed in technology and physics was varied from one design to the next. The cost benefits of various design options are compared quantitatively, with an emphasis on pulsed versus steady-state operation. Possible means to improve the economic competitiveness of fusion are suggested. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Safety and Environmental Assessment of Fusion Power (SEAFP) project includes activation calculations to provide input data for almost all the other safety-related tasks in the programme, such as safety analyses of normal operations, potential accidental events, and decommissioning. Neutronics and activation calculation procedures with some distinctive features are outlined and results and their use in safety-related tasks are illustrated. (orig.)
