[en] Pitch angle of the local magnetic field line is measured from the polarization angle of the σ and π components of Hα emitted from the neutral beam. The pitch angle estimated from the π component agrees with the pitch angle estimated from the external coil current (vacuum magnetic field). (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This work is devoted to the study of magnetic islands and resonances of drift surfaces which can take place in the magnetic field of a Helias configuration and which affect the particle confinement properties. It is shown that due to external magnetic field perturbation the large size islands, the overlapping of resonances and stochasticity are possible in the magnetic configuration with the β(0) = 0.03. AbstractAbstract
[en] Theoretical model for the collapse events in toroidal helical plasmas with magnetic hill is presented. There exists a turbulent-turbulent transition at a critical pressure gradient, leading to a sudden increase of the anomalous transport. When the magnetic shear is low, the nonlinear excitation of the global mode is possible. This model explains an abrupt growth of the perturbations, i.e., the trigger phenomena. Achievable limit of the plasma beta value is discussed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent advances in tokamak physics can be used in the quest to optimize the stellarator concept. In particular the experimental confirmation of strong bootstrap currents suggests the possibility of taking advantage of non-zero current in steady-state stellarators. In addition the observation of neoclassical islands suggests important issues for design optimization, in order to operate in a regime in which neoclassical effects heal stellarator islands. (author)
