AbstractAbstract
[en] This study has been done for developing a decision-making framework which is used for reviewing the improvements of the Risk Based Technical Specification systematically. The developed framework using influence diagrams has been applied to an example problem. This work may contributed to enhancing both the safety and the efficiency of nuclear power plants by reviewing the changes for Technical Specifications proposed by the utility

AbstractAbstract
[en] Three core design of KALIMER is evaluated by applying performance index about nuclear fuel breeding, non-proliferation resistance, radiotoxicity of spent fuel. It is difficult to select best nuclear fuel, because each evaluated items have different superiority. Therefore, in this study, G-value (Global efficient index) is introduced with weighting factor of each efficiency. 3-type of KALIMER core design is compared by G-value in the several cases

AbstractAbstract
[en] A computational fluid dynamics analysis is conducted to evaluate the prediction performance of the standard and RNG κ e - eddy viscosity models, and differential stress model (DSM). A 5x5 rod array with the split vane is simulated and the numerical predictions are compared with the experimental results where applicable. The curvature-compensated convective transport (CCCT) scheme is used to discretise the convection term. There is a negligible difference in the prediction performance between the standard and RNG κ e - models. DSM was found to more accurately predict characteristics of turbulent flow in the fuel bundle with the flow-deflecting vane

AbstractAbstract
[en] Radiation technology(RT) is more intimate than the other nuclear technologies and closely related to the public. The present conditions of radiation and radioisotope utilization and economic scales of radiation and radioisotope application in USA, Japan and Korea were examined, and the current trends and prospects of radiation technology were investigated. For planning of extended uses of the technology, the programs of the USA Office of Isotope for Medicine and Science, and the privatization activities of commercial isotopes of DOE were observed. The 2nd 'Comprehensive Nuclear Energy Promotion Plan(CNEPP)' of MOST includes utilization of radiation and radioisotopes, the suggestions for the practice of it were made

AbstractAbstract
[en] How to measure nuclear safety is the common subject of utility and regulator. This paper reviews the basic concept and definition of safety, hazard and risk and examines the reason why people pursue safety. Based on these general understanding, the meaning and characteristics of nuclear safety are discussed and methods to assure nuclear safety are addressed. International activities to develop safety performance indicators are analyzed and operational safety performance indicators, safety culture indicators developed by IAEA are explained and their relations are examined. Performance indicators in Korea are also explained with improvement plan and areas for future studies are suggested

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recently Japanese government is performing a reform work in order to solve the problem involved the existing Special Public Institutions. As results to, JAERI and JNC will be merged into a new independent administrative institution which will be expected to Japan's nuclear policy effectively. Henceforth, government of Japan will establish the legislation and organizational structure until 2005. From the finding of this case study, we should make an effort in order to carry out Korea's nuclear R and D effectively for the strengthening of national competitive

AbstractAbstract
[en] One of an approximate calculation model (sectoring method) is developed for a cosmic radiation shielding in satellite. Shielding calculation is performed for KITSAT-1 at the assumed SAA (South Atlatic Anomaly) location with AP-8 model radiation spectrum. When sectoring method is applied, calculation error is expected compared with 3-D detailed geometry calculation because of straight knock-on assumption neglecting the deflection of incident proton. However, sectoring method shows good agreements with 3-dimensional detailed Monte Carlo calculation in two TID detector locations

AbstractAbstract
[en] In technical specifications for nuclear power plants, operational modes are specified by the combination of conditions with respect to the variables of plant status. This paper theoretically defines and summarizes the results of standard. Operational mode for the improved standard technical specification of CANDU in Korea as a part of 'Establishment of CANDU limiting condition for operation and operational mode' project. This result will be proved as the basic data for the selection of standard limiting conditions for operation for pressurized heavy water reactors

AbstractAbstract
[en] Technology roadmap refers to an effective management tool for the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of large complex innovation from the needs-driven perspective of technological change. In developing National Nuclear Technology RoadMap (NNTRM), it is suggested that NNTRM should be designed to support to achieve the national goal of nuclear policy in the Nation Comprehensive Plan (NCP) for promoting development and utilization of nuclear energy. For the NNTRM, it is necessary to reorganize the existing plans in the NCP in needs-driven terms, to develop operational definition and indices, and to develop systematically technical and organizational networks on the NNTRM
