AbstractAbstract
[en] This document reports the work of a monitoring study on ambient air quality in Thailand during January and December 2003. Air samplings were carried out at two sites representing urban and suburban residential areas. Fine and coarse fractions were collected for 24 hours, once a month at each site by use of Gent samplers. The filter samples were measured for mass concentrations and were analyzed for elemental concentrations by instrumental neutron activation analysis. With the research reactor facilities at Office of Atoms for Peace, 23 elementals were determined. The results are presented and reviewed in the paper. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper describes the recent progress of the MySANS - 'mini' SANS facility and its present applications in materials science and technology research and education. Both management and technical strategies are generally explained. The formation of Reactor Interest Group (RIG) has lead to several experimental projects which collaborative work between MINT and local universities/research institutes. In addition a future work plan is also noted. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Detailed statistics of the application of radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine in Japan are summarized. They are the amount of supply in terms of monetary value and radioactivity, categorized usages of in vivo and in vitro, number of facilities using the radiopharmaceuticals for the time span of 5 years (1998-2002). Obvious tendency of decrease for in vitro use can be seen while the total amount of radiopharmaceuticals is almost unchanged. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Electron beams are used in industrial scale for removing toxic pollutants of SO2 and NOx from flue gases of the coal burning power stations in Poland and China. This environmental protection technology was first developed in Japan. Radiation is used for improving food safety. Worldwide more than 70,000 tons of irradiated spices are consumed for better hygiene. Radiation induced mutation breeding is widely used to develop new varieties of plants for improving production yields. Sterile insect technique using radiation is an unique method to eradicate or control insect pests without using chemical insecticides which pollute environment. In manufacturing industry, radiation crosslinking and/or grafting are extensively used for high quality products such as wires, automobile tires, heat-shrinkable tubes, battery separators and etc. Radiation and isotopes are also effectively used for nuclear medicine and cancer therapy. AbstractAbstract
[en] Serpong Neutron Activation Analysis Laboratory of BATAN has been implementing the relative method for INAA since 1996, especially for the determination of trace and minor elements in environmental applications. Recently, this laboratory has also installed the software KAYZERO/SOLCOI supplied by DSM Research, Geleen (NL) since November 2002, and it will perform this enhanced technique for future research work. Nowadays, we are studying and implementing this method for validation method by analyzing a standard reference material of environmental samples prepared by NIST and NIES. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The studying samples of this work have been collected from different areas of Vietnam including industrial areas in HCM city, Dongnai, Vungtau and non-industrial area, Dalat city. The concentrations of the toxic elements as: As, Hg, Cr, Co, Fe, Cu, Cd, Se, As, Zn, Pb in many foodstuff samples together with intercomparison sample which have been distributed by National Food Administration (Sweden) were analyzed by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA), Radiochemical Neutron Activation Analysis (RNAA); Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) and Anodic Stripping Voltammeter (ASV). The obtained results shown that the concentration of toxic elements in the collected samples from selected industrial areas of Vietnam are lower than the maximum permissible concentrations. (author)

[en] The FNCA 2003 Workshop on the Utilization of Research Reactors, which is the twelfth workshop on the theme of research reactor utilization, was held in Dalat, Vietnam and Jakarta and Serpong, Indonesia from January 12 to 16, 2004. This workshop was executed based on the agreement in the fourth Coordinator's Meeting of Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) held in Tokyo, March 2003. The workshop consisted of four groups under the theme of the following fields; 1) Neutron Activation Analysis, 2) Research Reactors, 3) Tc-99m Generator Technology and 4) Neutron Scattering. The total number of participants for the workshop was 93 people from 8 countries; China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. The 30 of the presented papers are indexed individually. (J.P.N.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute (KURRI), the heavy water facility of the Kyoto University research Reactor (KUR) was remodeled in order to upgrade the performance of Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT) in the fiscal year 1995. A new materials irradiation facility was installed in the KUR during fiscal year 1996-1998. These facilities have been used effectively to promote the joint use program among Japanese universities.
