AbstractAbstract
[en] The present study discussed the application of electrical system and its safety aspects in Nuclear Fuel Complex. The major equipment required for production of Zirconium oxide powder and sponge include Reduction Furnaces, Vacuum Distillation Furnaces, Oxy-chlorinators, High Temperature Calciners etc. A reliable and self contained electrical power system is being provided at Zirconium Complex to meet its power requirements for production of reactor grade Zirconium Sponge. The initial power requirement for the Project is estimated to be about 5 MVA with a connected load of about 9 MVA

AbstractAbstract
[en] VEC Kolkata K500 superconducting cyclotron uses cryogenic liquids to cool the NbTi coil for its magnet and the cryopanels. The NbTi superconducting coil is immersed in a helium bath inside the liquid helium chamber. Cryopanels are used for generating vacuum inside the accelerating chamber of the cyclotron. These cryopanels are cooled with liquid helium. Both the helium cooled surfaces are covered with multi layer insulation and thermal shield cooled by liquid nitrogen flow. Safety aspects related to the use of cryogens in the cyclotron requires to be assessed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Materials handling, processing and storage of hazardous chemicals has grown exponentially. The chemical industries has reacted to the situation by introducing numerous safety systems such as IS18001, 'HAZOP', safety audits, risk assessment, training etc, which has reduced hazards and improved safety performance, but has not totally eliminated exposure to the hazards. These safety systems aim to bring change in attitude of the persons which is difficult to change or control. However, behaviour of plant personnel can be controlled or improved upon, which should be our aim. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Material handling is a basic requirement of all the tasks we perform. Equipment used for handling of materials provide great flexibility in relieving man-power, reduced time and in ensuring safety of men and materials. These Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) refer to various materials handling equipment, including forklifts, cranes, chain pulley blocks, tractors, and other specialized industrial trucks powered by electric motors or internal combustion engines. Proper maintenance of these equipment is essential, because, in addition to enhanced safety, it prevents loss of business or production caused by mechanical failure. This paper discusses on the experiences in respect of safe use of MHE achieved through a typical systematic approach to maintenance of material handling equipment. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The behavior of the individual who notice fire first is very important because it affect the safety of all occupants of the area. Human behavior on fire depends on variables of the buildings in which fire occurs and by the appearance of the fire when it is detected. Altruistic behavior of human being will help to handle the critical conditions due to fire emergencies. NPCIL have developed a culture of systematic approach to safeguard men and materials from fire by training and awareness. In our Nuclear Power Plants, we have an effective plan and system to test the plans. In each emergency exercises, the behavior of individuals will be monitored and recorded
