AbstractAbstract
[en] The purpose of this project was to create a device that would allow the rendering of a 3-D model of cracks within a CANDU pressure tube. The designed device uses a waterproof laser and the CIGAR driving mechanism. The system was designed with the reactors at Darlington in mind, but it could be modified for other CANDU systems. AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper discusses the CANDU position and prospects in China. Key factors in CANDU project promotion are the excellent performance of the existing two Qinshan CANDU-6 units, popularizing significance of advanced fuel technology, the nuclear cooperation between Canada and China governments and cooperation to promote new CANDU projects.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The recent observation of the Higgs Boson at CERN is a 'discovery of the century' event. Interacting with the Higgs field is how elementary particles acquire mass. The Higgs Boson is the particle associated with the Higgs field. Mass is highly concentrated energy (E=mc"2). Will we ever make practical use of the Higgs discovery in the coming decades? History says you will.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The particle-in-cell(PIC) technique is a well-established computational method for the simulation of plasmas. This study will explore the potential for the PIC technique as a method of simulating plasmas which are undergoing nuclear fusion. The standard PIC framework is used, however collisions which are relevant to fusion are added using the Monte-Carlo model. The resulting neutron distribution, as well as the reaction rate for fusion events as a function of density and temperature are obtained, and compared to accepted results. The advantages and disadvantages of the PIC method for this application will be discussed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) is a hybrid approach to fusion in which a self-organized plasma is compressed with the inertia of a conductive liner to conditions that fulfill the Lawson criterion. This paper provides an overview of MTF and the ongoing research at General Fusion (GF) to design, test, and demonstrate the ability to produce energy using its acoustic MTF technology. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Simulation results are of little use if nothing is known about the uncertainty in the results. In order to assess the uncertainty in a set of output parameters due to uncertainty in a set of input parameters, knowledge of the covariance between input parameters is required. Current practice is to apply the covariance between multigroup cross sections at infinite dilution to all cross sections including those at non-infinite dilutions. In this work, the effect of dilution on multigroup cross section covariance is investigated as well as the effect on the covariance between the few group homogenized cross sections produced by lattice code DRAGON. AbstractAbstract
[en] Energy supply is one of the most important concerns of every government, energy authority, and researchers to meet the growing regional energy demands. Microgrids have the potential to solve the problem of conventional power grid and offer sustainable decentralized power system. However, most of the current distributed generation within microgrid doesn't meet future energy demand expectations. SMR could an effective and a viable power generation source for modern microgrids to support future electricity demands. A comprehensive study is conducted on microgrid with SMR through electricity generation profiles, geographical and environmental assessment, as well as cost analysis using simulation practices and data analysis.
