[en] The 3-D steady-state SN neutron-gamma transport theory code ATES3 developed at BARC can be utilized for external source problems such as shielding analysis. A brief description on the use of ATES3 and its validation for international shielding type benchmarks problems is presented in the paper. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present the results of our computational studies on the possibility of using graphite and heavy water as moderating media for nested neutron spectrometer. The effectiveness of these alternate moderating media is explored by comparing the unfolded spectra with the actual spectra for typical fluxes of thermal and fast reactors. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Non-equilibrium radiation diffusion phenomena coupled with material energy balance have been studied numerically by developing a fully implicit finite difference code, considering spatially varying opacity of the medium. Our study reveals that for same incident drive, higher radiation and material energy densities can be realized for space dependent opacity of the medium as compared to those with constant opacity. AbstractAbstract
[en] Highest importance factor is assigned to radiation shielding structure all over the world in view of extremely high risk associated in case of failure. The engineering approach for radiation shielding of radiation facilities begins right from planning followed by selection of material. This includes planning at Macro and Micro level involving zonewise configuration based on radiation safety considerations. The most critical region of the facility is isolated from normal occupancy areas by providing transition zones of restricted entry which may be termed as supervisory zone. In case of Nuclear reactors, various sub systems are designed to attune the radiation and also to prevent the release of radioactive materials in the event of postulated loss of coolant accident

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this work, beta and gamma dose reduction factor of newly implemented lead free apron in uranium handling facility was studied. Gamma and beta doses at front side and backside of lead free apron was recorded by personal dosimeter when it was exposed to beta gamma radiation of natural uranium. Dose reduction factor for gamma was observed as high as 2.8 and for beta it was as high as 67. (author)
