AbstractAbstract
[en] By means of the on-line mass separator at Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, we produced 114Ba through the 58Ni(58Ni,2n) reaction, separated it as a 114Ba19F+ beam, and implanted it into a stopper foil positioned in the center of an array of track detectors, which were used to search for 12C radioactivity of 114Ba. A total number of (5.4±1.7).104114Ba atoms were implanted. No 12C event was found after a total exposure time of 116 hours, corresponding to a 58Ni beam dose of 1.3.1017. The resulting upper limit of 3.4.10-5 (84% c. 1.) for the branching ratio for 12C decay of 114Ba is considerably lower than the limits obtained in previous experiments, which represents an inconsistency at levels of more than 90%. A semiempirical estimate of 19.3 MeV for the upper limit of the Q-value for 12C decay of 114Ba is derived. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Based on the cold valley description of cold fission and fusion we investigate the cluster radioactivity phenomenon for the N = Z nucleus 114Ba, in the region of actinide nuclei and for some newly discovered superheavy nuclei. Using ground-state deformations of fragments as predicted by the macroscopic-microscopic model and taking the optimal orientation at scission, the pole-pole one, we obtain minima in the driving potential which are confirming the observed clusterization for mother nuclei with Z between 88 and 94 in majority of cases. Based on this we predict new cases of clusterization for nuclei up to Z = 100. (letter to the editor)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The present work aims to study the possibility of clustering in heavy nuclei by computing the cluster formation probability for the entire experimentally observed cluster decays from carbon to silicon taking the Coulomb and proximity potential as interacting barrier for the post-session region and simple power law interpolation for overlap region

AbstractAbstract
[en] The experimental techniques used at the GSI on-line mass separator for decay studies of nuclei far from stability are described. Particular emphasis is put on recent developments made for investigating nuclei near 100Sn. The methods applied for identifying and studying the new isotopes 94Ag, 100In, 101Sn and 114Ba are used as examples. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Several years ago, we developed at Berkeley a novel glass track-etch detector which exhibited unprecedented resolution in measurements of charge and velocity of relativistic heavy ions. Since its development, we have exploited BP-1 detectors in a variety of fields, including nuclear physics, astrophysics, and even atomic physics experiments. Finally, we are planning to deploy ECCO, a giant array of BP-1 detectors in space, to measure for the first time the age of galactic cosmic ray nuclei using the actinides (Th, U, Pu, Cm) as clocks. AbstractAbstract
[en] The half life time and other characteristics for the emission of clusters like 8Be, 16O, 20Ne, 24Mg, 28Si and 32S have been computed within the Coulomb and proximity potential model and the predicted half life time values have been compared with other models. It is found that 8Be emission from 112Ba is most favourable for measurements with the lowest half life time value [log10(T1/2) = 7.23S]. Geiger-Nuttal (GN) plots for all clusters have been studied and are found to be linear. It is found that the inclusion of proximity potential will not produce any deviation from the linear nature of GN plots. The nuclear structure and shell effects are evident from the observed variation in slope and intercept of GN plots. (author)
