AbstractAbstract
[en] The paper discusses the performances of a versatile computerized system developed at the Microanalytical Research Centre of the Melbourne University, for handling multiparameter data that may arise from a variety of experiments - nuclear, accelerator mass spectrometry, microprobe elemental analysis or 3-D microtomography. Some of the most demanding requirements arise in the application of microprobes to quantitative elemental mapping and to microtomography. A system to handle data from such experiments had been under continuous development. It has been reprogramed to run on a DG DS7540 workstation. The whole system of software has been rewritten, greatly expanded and made much more powerful and faster, by use of modern computer technology - a VME bus computer with a real-time operating system and a RISC workstation running UNIX and the X-window environment

AbstractAbstract
[en] HippoDraw is a highly interactive, document centric data visualization application. It is a cross platform application with GUI components written in Java and the underlying core using the HippoPlot C++ class library. The application is based on a document paradigm much like a word processor or drawing program. The HippoDraw C++ class library is a toolkit for building data visualization applications. The design of this toolkit is an attempt to decompose into abstractions the process of displaying data in various ways

AbstractAbstract
[en] A profile of twenty-two software packages designed for petroleum exploration and production was provided. Some focussed on the oil and gas engineering industry, and others on mapping systems containing well history files and well data summaries. Still other programs provided accounting systems designed to address the complexities of the oil and gas industry. The software packages reviewed were developed by some of the best-known groups involved in software development for the oil and gas industry, including among others, Geoquest, the Can Tek Group, Applied Terravision Systems Inc., Neotechnology Consultants Ltd., (12) OGCI Software Inc., Oracle Energy, Production Revenue Information Systems Management, Virtual Computing Services Ltd., and geoLogic Systems Ltd

AbstractAbstract
[en] A comparative analysis has been made to describe the potentialities of hardware and software tools of two most widely used modern architectures of graphic processors (AMD and NVIDIA). Special features and differences of GPU architectures are exemplified by fragments of GPGPU programs. Time consumption for the program development has been estimated. Some pieces of advice are given as to the optimum choice of the GPU type for speeding up the processing of scientific research results. Recommendations are formulated for the use of software tools that reduce the time of GPGPU application programming for the given types of graphic processors

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Global Positioning System (GPS) was originally developed by the US Defence Department as a navigational tool. Today, portable receivers make it possible for one to determine their precise coordinates on any place on earth in a matter of seconds. GPS technology uses orbiting satellites to pinpoint locations based on the distance and speed of transmission signals. Pipeline professionals use the receivers to locate faults, corrosion damage and cathodic protection flaws. GPS technology is the only accurate alternative to physically measuring pipelines. All the data collected is generally transferred into a geographical information system (GIS) and transposed onto a graphic representation of the pipeline. Details such as coating quality, pipeline composition, surface conditions and landowner status are recorded. Calgary-based Golder Associates Ltd., has developed a computer simulation that incorporates elements extracted from a GIS database. 3 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Problem shooting in tower structure, sensor installation, earth, and cabling have been done with integrated field-test, establishment of data acquisition system, and instrument calibration since the completion of the main tower construction in this year. Procedure guide was also made for the effective management covering instrument operation, calibration and repair. Real measurement has been done during two months from this October after whole integration of equipments. Occurrence of nocturnal inversion layer, fogging, and frequent stable condition of atmospheric stability were shown as the analysis results of measured data which well represented seasonal and regional characteristics in the site. Wireless data transmission to MIPS(Meteorological Information Processing System) has been done after collection in the DAS(data acquision system) where environmental assessment can be done by the developed simulation programs in both cases of normal operation and emergency.
