[en] Risoe National Laboratory is the principal national research institution in Denmark. Like many countries in the West, Denmark decided in the mid-1950s to participate actively in the peaceful development of nuclear energy. This decision resulted in the creation of the national research center at Risoe. The work program of Risoe traditionally included nuclear and non-nuclear. The nuclear was to be limited to Risoe being in a position to assist the nation actively should Denmark take a positive stance on nuclear power. The second aspect was to be the extension of natural science research and technological development where energy supply and utilization were to be the important areas of study. This work program of limited nuclear studies and diversification into other energy areas proved to be a fortuitous choice, for in 1986, the Government decided not to introduce nuclear power in Denmark. Following this, the law that regulates Risoe's activities was amended to further encourage an R and D effort in non-nuclear energy fields, based in part on the skills gained during the nuclear research period. At present the research areas at Risoe are: Energy Research; Environmental and Safety Research; Informatics and Computing; Materials R and D; Radiation Research and Application; Biotechnology and Plant Production. 2 figs

This report gives a review of current and finished projects. All current projects are described briefly, stating status and results obtained, while results of finished projects are described in more detail. All current projects are described individually stating status and results obtained. Risoe's contribution to the organization and the administration of the programs is mentioned.
