AbstractAbstract
[en] The improvement of prediction models is needed to enhance the safety analysis capability through experimental database of local phenomena. To improve the two-phase interfacial area transport model, the various experiments were carried out with local two-phase interfacial structure test facilities. 2 Χ 2 and 6 Χ 6 rod bundle test facilities were used for the experiment on the droplet behavior. The experiments on the droplet behavior inside a heated rod bundle geometry. The experiments used GIRLS and JICO and CFD analysis were carried out to comprehend the local condensation of steam jet, turbulent jet induced by condensation and the thermal mixing in a pool. In order to develop a model for key phenomena of newly adapted safety system, experiments for boiling inside a pool and condensation in horizontal channel have been performed. An experimental database of the CHF (Critical Heat Flux) and PDO (Post-dryout) was constructed. The mechanism of the heat transfer enhancement by surface modifications in nano-fluid was investigated in boiling mode and rapid quenching mode. The special measurement techniques were developed. They are Double-sensor optical void probe, Optic Rod, PIV technique and UBIM system

AbstractAbstract
[en] The state feedback optimal control techniques are used in designing the reactor control system. The mathematical plant model with the temperature feedback effects is established from the point kinetics equation and the singly lumped thermal-hydraulic balance equations, and is expressed in terms of state variables. The LQR control system is designed, being followed by the LQG design to determine the optimal conditions both for the rod movements and for the output responses. This approach permits the consideration of the nuclear limitations since the rod movements are included as a system constraint. Also two different servo control schemes are proposed for the purpose of input tracking. The general control characteristics such as stability margins and output responses are investigated

AbstractAbstract
[en] When the number of cells is greater than several hundreds, and/or, the complexity of the system is very high like the reactor system, there may be some problems that have to be solved for the successful customization. The first problem that comes with large number of mesh cells is the time to finish the calculation is too long. The second problem that comes with the complex system, which means that the data base of the solid model is too big, and prohibits this approach altogether. The reason for this is that simply the Pro/E cannot handle too complex geometry. For example, a desktop workstation that has a 3.3 GHz CPU and a Quadrol FX 5600 graphic card cannot handle a system that has more than 150000 solid parts because it takes too long time to regenerate model data and it takes to long time to manipulating graphic data by graphic processor. Another problem is identified with the Pro/Tool kit API routines. The maximum memory size of the array that can be handled by the API is 4 mega bytes. Therefore, a limited number of solid parts can be handled in one time. Some more efforts should be exercised to solve these problems to get a powerful porosity calculation procedure

AbstractAbstract
[en] CSN involvement in different international NEA experimental TH programmes has outlined the scope for a new period of CAMP-Espana activities, currently focused on the: -Analysis, simulation and investigation of specific safety aspects of PKL3/OECD and ATLAS/OECD experiments. -Analysis of applicability and/or extension of the results in these projects to the safety, operation or availability of the Spanish nuclear power plants. Both objective are carried out by simulating experiments and plant application with the last available versions of NRC TH codes (RELAP5 or TRACE). A CAMP in kind contribution (NUREG/IA) is aimed as final result of both types of analyses. Five different national research groups (from Technical Universities of Madrid, Valencia and Cataluna) ate carrying out the development of these activities. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The average equations employed in the current thermal hydraulic analysis codes need to be closed with the appropriate models and correlations to specify the interphase phenomena along with fluid/structure interactions. This includes both thermal and mechanical interactions. Among the closure laws, an interfacial and wall frictions, which are included in the momentum equations, not only affect pressure drops along the fluid flow, but also have great effects for the numerical stability of the codes. In this study, the interfacial and wall frictions are reviewed for the commonly applied thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes, i.e. RELAP5-3D, MARS-3D, TRAC-M, and CATHARE

AbstractAbstract
[en] In some countries, summer over-heating is a big problem in a buildings energy balance. Ventilated facades are a useful tool when applied to building design, especially in bio climatic building design. A ventilated facade is a complex, multi-layer structural solution that enables dry installation of the covering elements. The objective of this paper is to quantify the efficiency improvement in the building thermal when this sort of facade is installed. These improvements are due to convection produced in the air gap of the facade. This convection depends on the air movement inside the gap and the heat transmission in this motion. These quantities are mathematically modelled by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques using a commercial code: STAR CCM+. The proposed method allows an assessment of the energy potential of the ventilated facade and its capacity for cooling. (Author) 23 refs.

AbstractAbstract
[en] SMART is an integral type reactor with innovative design features aimed at achieving a highly enhanced safety and improved economics. The SMART design is based on proven reactor design technologies with the use of new advanced design features. Most of the design features implemented into the SMART have been proven, however the advanced design features implemented into the SMART should be proven by testing. Various thermal hydraulic experiments have been carried out and also planned to assure the fundamental behavior of major concepts of the SMART and to prove the performance of the systems with new innovative technologies. This paper describes the thermal hydraulic test program for the SMART development and briefly discusses the typical test results. (author)
