[en] The author discusses perturbation theory estimates (in a pseudoscalar pion-nucleon theory) for near threshold π-p → γγn, both from atomic L = 0 and L = 1 orbits. The comparison of various contributing amplitudes (including the Δ resonance contributions) is discussed so as to ascertain which ones dominate, at least in c.m. transverse gauge. A detailed calculation (at threshold) gives a predicted total branching ratio of 2γ to 1γ rates as 1.31 X 10-4, and also exhibits the γ-γ angular distribution. Significant differences from previous literature are elucidated. (Auth.)

[en] Neutrons and γ rays from the interaction of π-capture in Hosup(165) are measured in coincidence with γ rays which provided the identification of the resulting nuclei. A discrete component in the precompound neutron spectra is resolved for the first time and its correlation to the population of high spin nuclear states is observed. Despite their low efficiency, neutrons and γ rays give valuable imformation about π-capture in Hosup(165) and they give access to the study of all the secondary processes of the pion capture.
