AbstractAbstract
[en] The decay scheme of 29Al has been investigated with the 26Mg(α, p)29Al reaction at E/sub alpha/ = 14.2 MeV. Simultaneous measurements of p-γ angular correlations and p-γ linear polarizations, utilizing a three-detector Ge(Li) Compton polarimeter, have been accomplished. Spin-parity assignments of 7/2+, 3/2+, 5/2+, 9/2+, 5/2+, and 7/2+ are set forth, respectively, for the 1.75, 2.22, 3.18, 3.58, 4.22, and 5.99 MeV levels. The results suggest J/sup pi/ = 11/2+ for the 5.85 MeV level

AbstractAbstract
[en] Levels of 29Al were populated with the 26Mg(α,p)29Al reaction at E/sub alpha/ = 11.26 MeV. The linear polarizations of γ rays emitted in the decays of the 1.40-, 1.75-, 2.22-, and 2.87-MeV levels were measured. The polarization measurements are consistent with known spin-parity assignments for the 1.40- and 2.87-MeV levels, respectively. When combined with previously available information they indicate an assignment of 3/2+ for the 2.22-MeV level and 7/2+ (3/2+) for the 1.75-MeV level

AbstractAbstract
[en] Among the sd-shell nuclei, the odd-mass "2"9Al is found to be one of the case where the spectroscopic information related to its level structure is still scarce. All the previous experimental investigations on "2"9Al were carried out using β-decay, transfer reactions and fusion-evaporation reactions with alpha beam. All these studies could establish the level structure of "2"9Al upto an excitation regime of ∼ 3 MeV with firm spin-parity assignments of the underlying levels. We are reporting here the new findings related to the level structure of "2"9Al that has been obtained for the first time from an investigation using heavy-ion fusion evaporation reaction

AbstractAbstract
[en] A non-destructive method has been developed for the determination of silicon in steel alloys by reactor fast neutron activation analysis using the 29Si(n,p) 29Al reaction. An iron sample and a comparator of pure metallic silicon powder are irradiated in a cadmium case. In order to obtain the net counting rate of the 1273.4 keV peak from 29Al, background activities are corrected carefully to avoid peaks of 1268.0 keV from 28Al singleescape and 1266.2 keV from 31Si. The present method is superior to the method using the 28Si(n,p) 28Al reaction. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A reactor fast neutron activation analysis was used in combination with a simple pre-concentration procedure for determining silicon in some iron reference standard materials of Japan Iron and Steel Federation. The samples were dissolved with aqua regia and digested with perchloric or sulfuric acid. The precipitated silica was collected on a filter paper and irradiated in a cadmium case with reactor fast neutrons. Silicon can be determined in tool steel SKD6, low-alloy steel Nos 2 and 4 and silico-manganese samples by a present method measuring 1,273.4 keV γ-rays from 6.63-minute 29Al produced by 29Si(n,p)29Al reaction.
