AbstractAbstract
[en] A new transuranium neutron-deficient isotope 235Am was produced via the reaction of 238Pu(p, 4n)235Am by using a 35 MeV proton beam. The recoiled products were collected by a helium-jet and long-capillary system. Americium isotopes were separated out by a rapid radiochemical method. X-ray, γ-ray, and x-γ coincidence measurements were taken in the study. According to 235Pu decay γ-ray and Np K x-ray growth-decay property, 235Am was definitely identified and its half life is determined as 15 +-5 min

AbstractAbstract
[en] Many efforts have been devoted to the study of heavy elements at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP) in the last decade. Remarkable progress have been made at HIRFL (Heavy Ion Research Facility at Lanzhou) in synthesis and identification of several new isotopes and studies of their exotic decay properties in actinides and even in the transactinides regions. The rapid chemical separation procedures have been widely used for these studies when the half-lives of the expected nuclides are longer enough

AbstractAbstract
[en] A neutron deficient isotope 235Am has been produced via the reaction 238Pu(p,4n) 235Am by 35 MeV proton bombardment of 238Pu. The reaction products were transported by the He-jet recoil-transport apparatus. Radiochemical separations were performed by liquid-liquid extraction to isolate the americium fraction fro the mixture of the reaction products. The chemically separated Am fractions were used for the X- and gamma-ray measurements. A new neutron-deficient isotope 235Am was definitely identified from the growth and decay of its daughter, 25.3 x min 235Pu and X- γ coincidence measurements. The 235Am half-life was determined to be 15±5 min. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Spectroscopic data and level schemes from radioactive decay and nuclear reaction studies are presented here for all nuclei with mass number A=235. The highlight of this evaluation consists of the precise and comprehensive Coulomb excitation study (2012Wa35) on "2"3"5U, which in addition to the 7/2[743] ground state rotational band, extended the 1/2[631], 5/2[622], 5/2[752], and 3/2[631] rotational bands up to Jπ=53/2+, 49/2+, 441/2−, and 43/2+, respectively. This evaluation presents a study (2010Hu02) of the "2"3"7Np("1"1"6Sn, "1"1"8Snγ) reaction where the ground state rotational band 5/2[642] was observed up to Jπ=(53/2+). It is worth for historical knowledge to mention the report on the “Discovery of isotopes of the transuranium elements with 93≤Z≤98” (2013Fr02), where the information for elements Np, Pu, and Am with mass number A=235 is given. "2"3"5Cf has not been observed. The alpha hindrance factors (HF) presented in this evaluation were calculated using values of the radius parameter (r_0) interpolated from those for even–even adjacent nuclei given by 1998Ak04

AbstractAbstract
[en] Measurements of EC and weak α decays of neutron-deficient americium and curium isotopes have been performed using a gas-jet coupled on-line isotope separator. Decay schemes of 235, 236Am have been established for the first time, and proton-neutron configurations in 235, 236Am and their EC-decay daughters 235, 236Pu have been evaluated. Qa values were derived from measured α-particle energies for 235, 236Am and 238Cm as well as for the new isotopes 233Am and 237Cm. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper reports the recent achievements in the studies of nuclei far from stability in IMP. The paper will first focus on the encouraging search for new delayed proton precursors and the studies of exotic decay properties and nuclear structure near the proton-drip line in extending the nuclear series A=4n+1, Tz=-3/2, A=4n+1, Tz=1/2 and A=4n+3, Tz=3/2. The remarkable achievements in the search and studies near the proton-drip line in rare earth region are then reviewed. The important progresses in the production, identification and study of new heavy neutron-rich isotopes in A>170 region are also reported, with a discussion on the multinucleon transfer (MNT) and dissipative fragmentation (DF) reactions used in the production of new heavy neutron-rich isotopes formed as heavy target residues. The successful identification and study of new neutron-deficient transuranium nuclide 235Am and the discovery of cluster emitter 230U are briefly introduced
