AbstractAbstract
[en] The Bevalac extraction time was increased from 1 to a maximum of 9.5 seconds, thus increasing the synchrotron duty factor and the data rate for experiments by a factor of 2-3, depending on the magnetic field. This slow rate of extraction required improved control of beam time structure, since magnet ripple remained approximately constant while the spill rate was decreased. Measurements of spill structure for the long spill are presented. Changes made to the accelerator systems are described, as well as tuning procedures found to be necessary, and the ultimate hardware limits found for the spill length

AbstractAbstract
[en] The extraction of the beam of accelerated particles from the air gap of a cyclotron requires an intense electric field created by an extracting electrode fitted on the periphery of the cyclotron and an adjustment of the magnetic field near this extracting electrode. The invention concerns a magnetic adjustment system of the passive type which can be used in intense magnetic field areas. This system includes a block in composite magnetic material made of a stack of small plates of materials of different permeabilities, arranged in planes and making pre-set value angles with the plane of the mean paths of the particle beam

AbstractAbstract
[en] The invention concerns improvements to the extracting electrode adjacent to the particle source located in the centre of cyclotron type accelerators. This improved extracting electrode reduces the vertical focusing and defocusing effects due to the accelerating hyperfrequency electric field generated between the dees and the cyclotron (or synchrocyclotron) mass. It is made of a metal block, appreciably prismatic in shape, with a window on its 'intake' face to allow the beam through and opening on to a deep notch cut in the block. This notch, bounded by two curvilinear side walls, forms a channel for the beam to pass, the hyperfrequency electric field having a low value component in this channel along the perpendicular to the plane of the mean paths of the beam

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method and apparatus are described for electrostatically extracting high beam currents at improved energy from small dia high magnetic field cyclotrons by deflecting particles from their trajectory within an electrostatic field traversing an extraction channel. Magnetic material immediately adjacent to the inside of at least a portion of the channel first reduces the fringe field and then reverses its normal gradient to assist in extraction and to focus the extracted beam radially with respect to the center of the cyclotron.
